MFJ makes a full power AC DC adapter. I use it and get 5 watts out. Not a wall wart. It has an AC power cord. I made a Y cable for DC and so I can also power the LDG antenna tuner.?

Well... if the radio is set for 5 watts but?only transmitting
100mw...?that could be because the supplied wall wart
supply ISN'T supplying?the current needed for full power
output.

The radio will draw about 2 Amps with 5 watts out on
high power.? So your power source should be rated for
at least 3 Amps... as not to strain the power source.

? Anon,
? ?I'll limit my comment to the power supply. The wall wart is only for charging the radio. You MIGHT also get away with using it for receive only. It was never designed for powering the radio in normal operation.
? ?Maybe you can help me now. I know nothing about WSPR so I'm confused as to the settings. The radio is set for 5 watts yet it's only transmitting 100 mw?

Hi everyone, I've owned an FT-817ND for about 6 months and it's seen only a reasonable amount of use. ?Until now. I've got the WSPR bug and I now have it up and running on 20 meters on WSPR.?
At this time it's set for 5 watts but I'm only transmitting about 200mW being that the signal that I'm feeding into it is relatively low. It's slightly warm but nothing too bad.?
I'm just wondering if anyone knows how well this will hold up under this kind of use? ?I'm powering it up with the standard AC adapter that came with it so I believe if I had the software set for 100% transmit that the 817 would be transmitting 2.5 watts. I set the software to where there are no bars showing on the power meter and until I put a meter on it I suspect that I'm around 100-200mW.?
So what ev eryone think about running the FT-817 around the clock transmitting 2 minutes out of every 10?
