Except if you have the internal battery then it will put out the 5 watts even with the
small supplied charger. The small charger alone will not supply enough power for full
power alone.

I was first surprised the radio was delivering 5W of CW with such a small PS
but when listening to the signal on another radio there were several strong
sidebands.

When in the home QTH, I keep the stock chager connected, and run at 5 watts.
In the off-time, then the trickle charge feature keeps it fully charged. If
I am really using the radio heavily, then I switch over to a conventional
power supply that will provide full transmit current.
