I have two small Festool dust extractors and they work well.? With the new shop, after some use and tripping over cords and hoses, I need to make a sanding station that is portable and keeps the sanders and extractor together.

So I like the idea of the Festool cart that attaches to the CT26 and CT36 (or CT22 and CT33).? So I decided to look around for a used extractor.? I found a CT 33, got it home and found that the suction is worse than my CT Midi (It has a new bag and new filters too).? So I did some diagnosing on google and decided to take it apart to see if the brushes were worn or the turbine was worn out...? It all looks fine, so what to do.? I guess see if it works as good as the Midi and live with it?

So while thinking about it, I was ready to just get something new and better (If that exists)

parts in the hope of gluing it back together.?
The Festools use plastic that becomes brittle over time. Very unfortunate. A small crack might explain the lower suction you’re experiencing. ??

Not sure what is wrong with the CT33, but from the spec they should be really close to the CT Midi in respect to performance.
CT midi - 130 cfm at 96” static water lift
CT33 - 134 cfm at 90” static water lift
maybe it worth sending the unit to Festool for repair.
I am not familiar with the other dust extractor, but I am really happy with the festool one.?
Especially when I have additional festool tools. The ecosystem works really nice (like pairing Bluetooth devices to the DE)

I knew I was asking the correct people.

I noticed the wheels did not seem to roll correctly..
?
So I pulled them off.
?
?
Both sides were cracked at the same spot.? I put some duct tape on the back and the suction is MEGA.? I guess the previous owner dropped it?? There were signs of diagnosis (two new hepa filters and a new set of 5 bags).? But with the wheels on, you can't see the gap.
?
I will get some 5 min epoxy to make it permanent!

I have a flex branded Nilfisk extractor and find the ergonomics of the festool ct26 more comfortable. The auto clean on the flex doesn’t work great and clogs easily so bags are the way to go with those.?

Greetings : My better one is a WAP purchased in early 90's just use cheep hepa filters not originals had to put a new on off switch and changed brushes about a year ago. i use for sanding and that sort of stuff. For regular clean up $100.00 SS Dewalts? i have 3? and put were i need them. use FESTOL hose. mac,,,? ??

This is the most commonly available model in a lot of major tool brands (Milwaukee and makita to name a couple)? Hose storage is a bit cumbersome compared to feature hose garage.?

I second David K. experience with brittle plastic with age of Festool Vac. I sometimes grab the vac to get it over something from the top section. I have broken small protrusions around the caddy on top in multiple places.

Have you examined the used CT33 for cracks on the external housing? I have 4 x Festool vacs, 26, 33, 33, and 48, and my oldest is approaching 15 years. One of my CT33s has cracked all the way through and has a total loss of suction. I keep the
parts in the hope of gluing it back together.?
The Festools use plastic that becomes brittle over time. Very unfortunate. A small crack might explain the lower suction you’re experiencing. ??

I have a Flex that looks like what Dan shared. I used festool in shop and flex stays in the house. Have had it for several years with no issues. I actually find the hose storage on Flex easy compared to Festool and the electrical? cord holding by a bungee is a simple method and easy to use.

I did a deep dive on dust extractors a couple years ago before I got my Festool CT48 [edit].? Nilfisk is a good manufacturer that produces a lot of different vacuums.? They also are OEM for many other manufacturers (Milwaukee, Makita, Flex VCE, etc.).? There are two models that are more common in our level of dust extractors.

The previous generation Makita was an OEM of the Nilfisk ATTIX 30.? This unit has two large main filters for the vacuum (shown below).
?
Essentially, it has twice as much filter area than the Festool CT extractors.? I believe this is why the this design performed so well in the Toolbuzz comparison test (very close to the best units from Festool/Hilti):

The new generation Makita extractor as well as many others (such as Milwaukee, etc.) are now appearing to use the OEM version of Nilfisk ATTIX 33/44.? This unit has a main filter about the same size of the Festool but also a secondary HEPA filter section.? I think this is why these units are not performing as well as the Festool/Hilti (especially with a bag that is partially full).? I can see the value of this design if you are working with lung hazardous stuff like drywall sanding.

For woodworking sanding, I don't think you really need this 2-stage filter system for hazardous fines (although that is my personal opinion after using the Festool CT).? The Festool/Hilti units appeared to perform the best with regards to airflow and suction under heavy bag load.
?
I did test out the latest Makita/ATTIX44 and the suction was not quite as powerful as the Festool.? The Makita/ATTIX44 also had a higher pitched sound that was not quite as comfortable to work with.? The lower tone of the Festool was easier to deal with even though the decibel level may have been a bit higher.

One thing to note about the Hilti units is that they DO NOT have speed control so they would not do well for stuff like random orbit sanders.
