Rangate 300 Lift Cart

I’ve been doing more rough carpentry jobs in my garage and was thinking a rolling cart would come in handy. I currently have the Barth 300 and 500v in my basement shop and wouldn’t be without them. Has anyone purchased or seen the Rangate cart? I’m wondering how it compares to the Barth 300 or Felder FAT300 in terms of build quality. It’s a lot more expensive than the Felder.?

Not sure how it compares to Barth/Felder, but I have 2 Rangate lift carts in service since beginning of 2023 and 1) they are worth?the price and 2)they are underrated in performance specs. The casters are soft enough to roll smooth over uneven surfaces without the chatter, and the carts are heavy enough?to never question stability/tipping ability. They are stout enough to slide lumber across safely and have enough range of motion to unload at-level from a box truck deck. I'd buy more again when needed without hesitation.?

I have a 500v (not used as a mobile cart) and I have seen other lift carts. ?I was thinking about the Rangate lift cart as my mobile cart after a shop revision, and it was suggested I get a Husky from Home Depot. ?They have been mentioned on this forum with great reviews. ?I went with that. ?A few inches less wide, which was perfect for navigating areas where I had a bit less clearance than ideal. ?Wheels upgraded to larger ones. ?Super easy to move around as it is so light, yet no problem supporting quite a load of wood.

And.... what a $$$ savings!!! ?Now, no, it is not of the "build quality" of Rangate or Barth, but for me, the Husky suits me better and I would not want to swap it for a more robust cart unless it was to sell the robust cart, and use the money to buy another Husky and have $ left over.

Something to consider.?

Wouldn’t even consider anything from Husky, but that Barth 300XL & Felder Fat 300S look really nice, especially because these two offer the height adjustment from both sides of the cart. ?

Does anyone have the frame dimensions for the Barth 300 XL? ?And Cost too?

Thx,

Wade?

Thanks Brett. Good to hear a positive review from someone who owns a couple. ?

Joel, do you have a link for the Husky cart? Is it a scissor lift?

I’m thinking of building a larger heavier bench in the corner, then storing the lift car under it when not in use. I can then use the lift cart like a pallet jack to move the heavy bench into the middle of the garage when I need the space. My floors are polished concrete, so everything rolls smoothly.?

I bought the 6ft long adjustable husky rolling bench and put a 4'x8' torsion box table on top of it instead of the top it came with. I use it as my main assembly table. Only problem is that the hand crank that came with it for height adjustment hits the underside of my new table top (it was built to stick out past the original top).?

Because of this, I have to put a long bit holder on a drill to turn the rod that the original handle was supposed to go into if I want to adjust height. Since this set up isn't super convenient, I find myself not adjusting the height as much as I originally thought I would.

I would much prefer a scissor lift style table with foot pedals but couldn't justify the price for my home hobby shop.

LArry Long Neck - 10mm allen bit on a drill solves the problem.

I have both the Rangate and Barth lift tables, both very nice and equal build quality. I do notice that the Barth raises more per pump stroke. Also, unless they now offer a top option, the Rangate couldn’t be ordered with a top. I ended up buying a sheet of 1 inch Baltic birch and making my own .

Nothing wrong with the Husky carts, I have three 54” benches and I use them as material carts around my shop. They double as infeed/outfeed for jointer, planer, and wide belt sander. For $220 a piece, I’ve still got a long ways to go until I reach the price of one felder fat300 cart. Just some food for thought. Of course if I won the lottery, I would ditch the husky carts and replace promptly with felder/Barth/ran gate style carts.?

Here's another vote for the Husky tables.

I use mine for an assembly/outfeed table for my bandsaw.?

I have the original casters on mine at the moment. My floor is smooth enough, so it hasn't been an issue.

Yep — they are pretty great although I’d like another two locks. ?It’s only an issue when on a very unlevel portion of my garage floor.

Thanks everyone. I ended up ordering the Rangate cart with 4 locking casters. I assume it will be here sometime next week. I’ll share photos once I get a top built.

As an FYI, when I was thinking about the Rangate cart before I went with the Husky, Greg at Rangate (this was in August, 2022) told me they can make a top in any size I want and can even have the 22mm holes like the Barth Bench.?

Not sure what is happening with that currently, but an FYI.

Ed,

When I got the rangate I copied the top that Joe Calhoon made for his at the Alpine shop.? I used 5/4 Maple.

No holes in the top.? I have another workbench with a parf top that I made.

The Rangate is a quality cart.? I also have a Husky adjustable top cart too.? Great for the price, but not the same.
