Machine Leveling

Hi folks:

I have a K500S slider on order that I will receive in 6 weeks or so. ?Yes, I really wanted to get a K700S but my budget would not stretch that far. ?I think I will be happy with the K500S since it is just me using the saw for furniture and some modest cabinet runs. ?It will be replacing a Sawstop that I certainly have enjoyed using but I am looking forward to handling sheet goods and larger items like tabletops easier and doing straight line rips for edging lumber using the slider. ?I know I have to get myself totally oriented to doing most cuts on the slider / outrigger.

My shop, while ample in square footage, is in a typical garage with a slopped floor for water to drain away from the building so I plan to use leveling feet to offset this slope. ?Does anyone know the specs for the K500S for leveling feet? ?I just noticed that David Best indicated that Felder has 11 mm unthreaded holes in the machines he leveled. ?Is that the case for the K500S? ? Does it take 4 leveling feet?

I need to get the correct ones ordered as I originally planned to get a SCM saw. ?I ordered 12 mm threaded feet for it and then I decided to buy a Felder saw. ? I think I need to return the ones I ordered previously. ?Thanks in advance for any input.

My K700S has four leveling foot locations.

Leveling feet are helpful for setting up the saw also - get the saw top straight?
and true in order to align the slider to the table top.

I used leveling feet with an anti-skid rubber layer. The feet I chose did not have sufficient capacity, so the rubber layer squeezed out from under the feet. You might think about that when choosing feet. If you are sitting on plain concrete there is probably no need for the anti-skid feature.

The K500S/K700S leveling feet holes are sized for M10 bolts.? If you are leveling on a concrete garage floor, then I would recommend getting anti-skid rubber feet.? If you use steel feet, it will act like a friction-less contact and the saw will easily shift/slide over the concrete floor just by leaning against it.?

These are the M10 leveling feet options (however, John indicated he had problems with the leveling feet rubber):

On my K700S, I drilled out the leveling feet holes to 1/2" diameter and used larger feet:

Thanks to both of you. ?I have ordered what I need for the Felder from McMaster-Carr and I am returning the other feet I had on hand for the different machine. ?Easy enough!

I was hoping someone will reply with feet that others have recommended in past. I bought one similar to the ones with glued black cushions on the bottom from McMaster and the cushions slip out from underneath, as already mentioned by John H.

Ones others have shared that seem to work are of following design. Part below is for reference only. You should be able to search leveling feet on the FOG web interface and find the actual recommended part.

Makes me wonder if members ever search the FOG archives. ? Many of the same questions come up on two year cycles. ?Leveling feet is one of the hearty perennials. ?Follow this link:?

Hi David:

That sounds like too much common sense!!! ?

Maybe most of us receive the posted emails into our inboxes and don’t log in? I know I only log in to check for relevant posts before writing a post of my own. So your comment/suggestion is well taken.?

Warm regards,
Lucky

Good one. ?Or how about how to couple a 4” flex hose to an 80mm dust port? ? Or 30mm versus 1?-inch shaper spindles. ??

The saw doesn’t come with leveling feet?

No, most folks just sit them directly on the concrete.

Anyway I just order some Mcmaster

Associated with this, but not to do with levelling machinery, what is the slope put on such garage floors for drainage?
Expressed as H/L
My son has a problem on a new construct and he is compromised by the entry height to his garage and is wondering if a small slope on the garage floor could assist
Tnx

Typical slope specced for the houses we've built in LA is 2" towards garage doors.

In Canada it is about 1 inch per 10 feet, 2 inches per 20 feet and so on for garage floors. This will ?allow adequate drainage for example for snow melting off vehicles in winter.
