Hello everyone.

Hello everyone, I am new to the Forum. I don't know if we can share the work we do with our Felders. But since I see you as my friends, I wanted to share a humidor box I made with you. It is made of wenge wood. I used Spanish cedar inside. I used Lebanese cedar and purpleheart for the floor coverings. I made the Dali on the lid using 243 pieces of exotic wood with the marquetry technique. I hope you like it. Greetings from Turkey

Hi Burak,

That is amazing. How many hrs of work is that?

I don¡¯t know humidors. Is the feature on the bottom of the humidor decorative or has a function to keep cigars fresh?

Thank you for liking it Imran. It was a work that took about 350-400 hours. The work on the base was done both decoratively and for tobacco pests that do not like the smell of Lebanese cedar. The purpleheart was put there just to make it look good.

Amazing work. ?Salvador would be proud. ?I was just going to ask which variety of Cedar you used. ?Thanks for posting.

I'm guessing the inlay work was done by hand?? It doesn't have the look of CNC'ed inlay.? Sadly, it seems like hand done inlay is an art form that's slowly fading away.? The work is beautifully done.? I hope you're proud of the accomplishment!

Yes, it was made by hand and I am trying to prevent this art from being lost.

I'm so glad you liked it.

Thanks for the reminder Imran. I will do that.

John Sincerbeaux still does his marquetry by hand.

I don¡¯t know if you are Burak or Gurer, but (apparently) unlike some others here, your pictures did not come through to me.?

?

The three tiny little pictures that show up at the end of your message below did not appear in your original message ¨C only as small boxes with some lines in them.? Clicking on them did nothing, same as when I click on the mini pics below.?

?

I do see in one of your later posts responding to Imran¡¯s query whether your work was by hand, a picture of you doing the work.? I agree with the others:? Amazingly beautiful work!??

?

I hope you continue to post.? If you can send the pictures in some other format . . . . , I would love to see them.? ?

?

Thank you!?

Terrific work, Burak.? The geometric shapes look like you styled it after Picasso which I don't think was an accident.? I want to share the photo and writeup with a friend who is deeply into marquetry and another who makes excellent humidors.? I know they will appreciate it.

I'm curious, how thick is the wood you use when you're doing an inlay like this?? My impression is that some people work with extremely thin veneers when doing a project like this, while others choose to use wood that's several millimeters thick.

Woods of various thicknesses are used in marquetry. We also work with 1 and 2 millimeters. What you see in this image is 0.6 millimeters.

Amazing detailed work...that is a beautiful cigar box!

I'm so glad you liked it. I got the Spanish cedar from a local seller but I'm in T¨¹rkiye?

Spanish cedar is a commercial wood and is readily available.? I bought some for a boat project and my local Hardwood Industries had it on the shelf.? Easy to work with but soft and not overly expensive.
?
But you made me curious. ?Cedrela odorata is actually a broadleaf related to mahogany, not at all similar to western red or eastern or yellow or incense or Lebanese or...??
?
Kind of like calling out Douglas Fir as Oregon Pine.??
?
I really like Dali's mustache. Nice work.

Wow, what incredible craftsmanship!! I don't smoke cigars, but would happily have one of those on my desk! :)
