Flip stops for F&F jig
I am planning to make a Fritz and Franz jig as soon as my new slider arrives. What do people favor for flip stops?
I would like to find stops with a cursor for a stick-on tape, if that exists. I think I saw one in a video once, but cannot find it again. I do not have the track yet. The 80/20 Inc. extrusions are interesting, but I do not know how compatible they are with any of the flip stops. One video showed the stops being modified to fit the extrusions. Thanks for any thoughts, or for links to information! -- John Hinman Boise ID Not a Felder Owner yet - expecting K700S in February and A941 in April 2022 |
I made mine with the metric versions of these front and back and have been quite happy.? On Tue, Feb 8, 2022, 5:28 PM John Hinman <jhinman1911@...> wrote: I am planning to make a Fritz and Franz jig as soon as my new slider arrives. What do people favor for flip stops? |
开云体育I like the 1-1/2” tall Lee Valley flip stop and tracks. They are designed so that a 3/4” spoil board/backer/ZCI strip can be used with the stop, and that backer can be moved/adjusted as required. ?Use instructions that illustrate this can be seen here: ??They can be purchased here: ? I prefer to sight down an edge to the distance tape rather than through a lens with scribe mark - less chance for parallax error. ? Or add a DRO. ? David Best - via mobile phone? David, Are these the parts you're referencing?? I've been very happy with both Incra and Lee Valley products so I might need to try them both.

开云体育Yes - same stuff as the link in my post. ?I find Incra stuff kinda overly designed - a solution looking for a problem. ?But to each their own.?David Best - via mobile phone? On Feb 8, 2022, at 5:03 PM, Jared Leach <leach.jared@...> wrote:

开云体育John I’m right there with you! ?My new K700S is about to make it’s first cut this weekend. Just need to do a few more things. ?But the F&F jig will be the very first thing I build.? I’ve been researching all the necessary components, for the past 2-3 weeks now. Nothing ordered yet, but the runner material I’m leaning towards is Delrin plastic. ?Then I’m on the fence about the tracks. ?80/20 is great but, before I decide on a track, I’ll need to decide on the flips. ?I’ve narrowed it down to two styles of flips. ?But also need to decide if I want to incorporate sacrificial sliding fences on his jig. ?I really do like Extreme Woodworker’s new upgrades, Steve has a nice, new design. ?And the Woodhaven stops he used look solid, but he had to slightly modify them to work with the 80/20 track. ?Then there are the flip stops that French River Springs used on his version of a F&F jig. ?Those have a pointed indicator and look very solid as well. ?I’m thinking I’ll use HDO 1-1/8” plywood for the decks. ?So I’m still deigning as you can see, LOL Thx, Wade On Feb 8, 2022, at 3:28 PM, John Hinman <jhinman1911@...> wrote:

开云体育You guys building F&F, please share when done. I am finally getting to the point to think about building one. Imran? On Feb 8, 2022, at 9:53 PM, Wade Dees <wjdsignature@...> wrote:

开云体育Hey David, Those Lee Valley flip stops look solid. ?Thank you for sharing. ?Do you use them with their quad track? ?If so, do you have the 3/4” spoil board incorporated into this as well? Would you mount the measure tape on the spoil board I assume? Thx, Wade On Feb 8, 2022, at 4:42 PM, david@... via groups.io <david@...> wrote:

The few Veritas items I have are really well made, and those stops look solid.
The 80/20 Series 10 extrusions have a center hole that can be tapped for a 1/4” bolt, if I understand correctly. That would allow a replaceable zero-clearance end piece. That is not as important as having a stop that fits correctly, though. I am giving serious consideration to the Veritas (Lee Valley) stops with their tape track and tapes. -- John Hinman Boise ID Not a Felder Owner yet - expecting K700S in February and A941 in April 2022 |
开云体育I find my cut to fit zero clearance end piece an indispensable part of my F and F jig. My stops however are very crude however, just some track and homemade blocks with a bolt and thumb screw.?Mark Foster

Mark, might you show a picture of your zero clearance end piece?
I am probably overthinking the F & F jig, but my general philosophy is that anything worth doing is worth overdoing ?, and the jig is just as rewarding a project as anything else I make. I may try to track down a piece of 80/20 to play with it a bit. The big issue is finding a place for the scale. -- John Hinman Boise ID Not a Felder Owner yet - expecting K700S in February and A941 in April 2022 |

I hate to say some of you might be overthinking the F&F jig?. Mine is basic, made with Baltic Birch ply and some rockler track I had laying around. Simple stops made from aluminum angle. I like David like sighting down an edge rather than a cursor. Has a replaceable hardwood edge for blade registration. A couple hours to make tops. Just make it and get to work.

Here are a few pic's of my F& F jig a little crude but works.
I currently have the Grizzly sliding table saw (Just placed an order for the Hammer C3 31, due in sometime in April :-)) which doesn't have the typical 3/4" miter slot. I tried making a miter bar from different materials with not much luck, instead I used a bearing setup like in the pictures, which has worked out great. My shop is not climate controlled, so if the jig gets sloppy or to tight, all that has to be done is adjust the middle bearing and I'm good to go. Got the idea from this TS-Aligner jig. . |
All the bearings are the same. The top & bottom bearing are fixes the middle is adjustable. If you look at the Aligner jig there is a slot which allows adjustment of the middle bearing. I just cut a slot in the metal plates that the bearings attach too and another slot in the plywood. I'll have to get back too you on the size of the bearings, which can probably be purchased just about anywhere.
