Fixing Felder X-roll short cross cut fence T-nut - AKA group buy of improved T-nut
Hello FOG, As some of you are aware, there is a known issue with the Felder short (1100mm) Xcut fence—it does not consistently register at 90 degrees and for many users requires recalibration each time the fence angle is changed or the fence is re-mounted on the slider after removal. David Best has invested meaningful time and effort in researching and developing a solution for this problem. For more details, you can review his findings here: David has decided not to produce additional retrofit kits himself. However, he has generously shared detailed diagrams outlining his solution. I have located a local metal shop willing to manufacture a batch of these retrofit kits to the required tolerances. Since I don’t have metal milling equipment myself, I will only be facilitating a single production run—provided we reach the minimum order quantity. Participation & TimelineIf you’re interested in purchasing a kit, please let me know. I’ll be collecting registrations over the next few weeks, and if we reach at least 25 units, we will proceed with the production run. My target is to start production in the May-June time frame. Available Retrofit Kits & Pricing
I'll have the final price once I'll know the number of participants.

Supporting David BestDavid declined payment for his work in designing this solution, but I believe we should compensate him for his time and dedication. I encourage anyone purchasing the retrofit kit to consider making a donation. I will personally donate $100 for my kit, plus any profit from this group buy. If you’d like to contribute, I will be collecting donations and forwarding them to David. All of the donations to David get passed along to support people in war-torn communities ? |

Thanks for ?putting this together. ?I saw that David Best's linked album shows a preliminary design and a final design. ?Am I correct in thinking that your kit will be machined per David's final design for the T-nut (machined stainless steel with two leveling screws), the bushing (machined bronze with groove for set screw), the bushing-supporting aluminum block (with two set screws) and the Kipp lever shaft (with groove for receiving set screw)? |
开云体育?Hello Netanel, Just wanted to clarify the parts included. The single machine option would include the reversible T-nut with built in leveling set screws? ?And when sending in the aluminum block for modification, would I leave the factory Kipp lever in place? Any chance there might be an option for a new flip stop with a single machine order? Thx, Wade On Mar 26, 2025, at 6:51 PM, netanel.belgazal via groups.io <netanel.belgazal@...> wrote:

I too will take a set for a single KF700
?
Just let me know when and where to send $$$
?
Thanks to you and David for all the effort you have put into this project. ?Sure would be nice if Felder would recognize this as an issue and provide the retrofit kit. ?I would think it would be easy for them to provide these parts for existing saws. ?Even better they should re-engineer this element of the saw so that these modifications are no longer necessary.
?
If I recall correctly, David has said he had these conversations with Felder, and he may have provided some of these parts to Felder at some point.
?
Once the orders are in, maybe that interest will prompt Felder to look at this again.

Wade,
?
The single machine kit will Include the T-nut with screws.
you would need to send your aluminum + Kipp lever for modification. If you want to keep your aluminum block you are welcome to buy a new one from
Felder and sent it to my address (unless there will be more than just you who want a new aluminum block, in this case I can buy them together from Felder)

Thank you Netanel.

David mentioned on his Flickr video, regarding this upgrade, that probably 9 out of 10 1100mm cross-cut fences do not register accurately each time they are put on, taken off, put on again…etc. ?I’m definitely in the “9” group! ?I took sometime this morning to run through four setups. ?Removing the fence completely each time, just to see where my setup was. ?Attached picture showing the results.
?
** Sorry David Best, plywood method here. ?
?
You can see the results were all over the place with the various dimensions. ?
So Netanel count me in for a single set up. ?I’ll ship my aluminum block to you when needed. As for the flip stop not being offered for the single setup order, I’m hoping you could reconsider. ?Reason being is two fold. ?David mentioned the single adjustment screw in the newly designed flip stop is a much easier?experience. ?Versus messing around with two points to go back and forth each time to get things dialed in. ?And second point, aesthetically, it just looks great! ?See the comparison pictures.
Two more questions to the group regarding the 1100mm cross-cut fence:
1. What accuracy tolerances are you guys living with on this set up? ?My cuts were an 18” length. ? ?
2. There really is no way to index this fence to lock in from a side to side movement is there? ?Such as how the larger cross-cut fence is set up with a pin on my K700S. ?With how it’s removed, you have to loosen both Kipp levers and the aluminum mounting blocks just slide back and fourth losing their?locations. ?Am I thinking about that correctly?
?
Thx,
?
Wade

开云体育Hi Wade,There is a stop on the 1100 xcut fence. This is the only way to keep the scale accurate. The stop goes in the channel where blocks slide. The stop had a set screw fixing its location. The locking AL block is registered against this stop to keep scale accurate. Not home so can’t share a pic. There must be one in the survival guide.
