Electronic brake C3 31

Hi all, I used to own a 2012 model hammer c31 combo unit and I remember the electric motor of the table saw used to applying an electronic break buzzing sound to slow the blade to a complete stop, as my n4400 bandsaw currently has as well. ?I no longer own that 2012 model, my current model is a 2016 and everything else is the same but the table saw doesn’t apply an electric brake when I turn it off. The helical head and router spindle does but the tablesaw slows down eventually there’s no buzzing sound

do others find the same? Is it supposed to have one consistently across the range of products and I should be raising it as a fault with Felder directly or it’s not common across all hammer motors?

I just thought it would have one given an older saw used to but this is not the case

thanks for any advice
Nathan?

Hi Nathan - My 2018-build C3-31 has the buzzing sound on the table saw blade as well.????? -Rich M.

Nathan - My 2018 C3-31 also has the buzzing sound when the saw blade stops.

Nathan, my CF 741 saw has the buzzing sound. It used to stop quite quickly, but it now buzzes for a long time before stopping. I need to look into what’s going on I suspect it will require some adjustment. I’m hoping something relevant comes up in this post.

Thanks for you replies so far.

I have gone back to have another look and I’d be keen to understand on average how long it takes others jointer helical heads or spindle router spindles to slow, the break might not be applied on my saw at all, that would make more sense than two out of the three motors doing it and just not the saw because all other switching functionality works fine otherwise

I may reach out to Felder also for a question, looking for an exploded schematic of the C3 31. If anyone has one would you mind passing it on if it’s pdf format

Thanks
Nathan

I could be wrong but my understanding was that the brake module only buzzed when it was faulty. ?I’ll check my C3-31 as it doesn’t buzz.

My bad…my machine does ?buzz but most noticeable after the Planer/thick esser had spun down….which it does well wthin the 10 seconds. ?The table saw also breaks but, having higher inertia, pretty much takes up the ten seconds and the noise from the blade spinning masks the buzz.

In the Files section of this forum, check out
/g/felderownersgroup/files/Manuals%20&%20Drawings/Hammer%20C3-31%20exploded%20parts%20diagram.pdf
which contains a number of drawings and exploded parts diagrams for the C3.?

With my ear protection on, I cannot hear the blade brake (buzzing sound).? I had to turn off the dust collector and take off the ear pro before I could hear the buzzing.?

Roger S.-? On my computer, I can't make out the details on the circuit diagram in your post above.? Which manual do you have that shows these circuit drawings ?? My C3 manuals only show this one circuit schematic drawing (PDF attached).
thanks,? Rich M.

The saw should have electric braking as well, time should be a few seconds with a saw blade, longer with a grooving cutter.

I think that it does…the circuitry does not provide for selective braking.. ?If you hit stop then immediately remove the power so the brake module has no effect, I think you will find that the saw runs much longer.

It is item 7 Bremsplatine (brake PCB). I am fairly certain it has some faulty component(s).?

My blade stops almost instantly, shaper runs a little longer but stops quickly enough to hear it buzzing a few seconds after it stopped (w/o ear protection and dust collector off)?

Kind regards,?

Jonathan?

I just measured the time for my table saw blade to stop spinning. ?

1) Powered up, start the table saw then stop ie brake operational - time to stop 10 seconds

2) Powered up, start the table saw then turn off the breaker - time to stop 20 seconds ? ?thus proving the brake module is working.

Reason why it takes longer to stop than yours, Jonathan, is that mine is a replacement from the OEM and IIRC there are two variable resistors that need tweaking. ?Now without knowing what the parameters should be, I’ve not bothered.

The ’take-away’ from this IMO is that (1) and (2) are a quick way to determine if the brake module is working or not since there is more inertia in the table saw than the planer/thicknesser and so easier to see the difference in time between (1) and (2)
