Dust Collector Options - 4-5HP Range
My Grizzly Two-Stage is getting a bit long in the tooth, and needs a new filter amongst other things, doesnt do a great job at fine dust collection. I've been looking at options and came down to a few;
?
Oneida Dust Gorilla Pro 5HP w/55gal Drum
Laguna T|Fux 5
Felder RL160
?
I know its a bit apples and oranges in terms of comparison, but I'm collecting from a F700, K700S, AD941 and a Bandsaw, in terms of what sort of a user I am, I like the term Prosumer level. The main concern I see on here around the RL series is its ability to capture fine dust without clogging the filter. After selling my double drum, I do see a smaller widebelt in my horizon, but will likley be a used purchase when one comes up within a reasonable distance, but in terms of usage its not going to be production level, so I don't think it would be an issue.
?
Only limitations are is 1? 30 amp availability for power, I do have 3? available, but just on a limited power budget (switched from a "15" HP Rotary Phase to a PTE010, and a smaller 37" widebelt would already be streching its capability), so would like to keep that for tooling. And it needs to be located on the _left_ side of my garage door, so right side bin removal with chute facing the rear of the garage. All hard piped already.
?
I did get a price on an RL160, but the unit Felder has on the way is destined for Delaware, not Sacramento, so shipping to AZ is going to be prohibitive, and the next container isnt till June/July into CA. Essentially other than douubling my budget somehow and magicly getting an AL-KO, would it be worth the wait for the RL160, or something else I should be looking at?
?
Cheers
-Karl

Immediate observations:
?
The T|Flux 5 is extremely tall (9.25 feet) and you would definitely need a 10 foot ceiling for proper motor cooling.? The TFLux is a very large footprint of 78" wide by 39" deep.
?
The Oneida may be able to fit under a 9 foot ceiling, but it's cutting it close (with 2" clearance).? It has a much smaller 48" x 30" footprint.
?
The Felder RL160 can sit under an 8 foot ceiling with no problem.? It has a footprint of 70" x 35".

Thanks for the reminder Aaron, the ceiling in my Garage is 10' with an 8' door, depending on the model I would need to move to high-lift garage door rails, but not ~initially~ looking at that as a restriction. The Oneida is just at the cusp of where high-lift rails would be required, without downsizing to the 35gal

I struggled with height and in the end 12 years ago I went with the 35 gal drum. I a, so happy I did as I can lift the full big out of the 35 gal drum. Pretty sure I would not be able to with a 55 gal drum. If I lived rural and could just dump the waste outdoors 55 would be great. As I live urban I need the bags.

I have an Oneida V3000 (I think!) and got the 35-gallon drum. Big mistake - I wish I had the larger drum.
?
Oneida sells a plastic drum liner to hold bags in place. My liner worked for a few years, but is now permanently triangular. I am resigned to scooping chips from the drum into a bag for disposal.
?
When I installed the Oneida I put the filter close to a wall, cleverly minimizing the space it took up. Oops - now I cannot reach one side to blow down the filter.

I also have the Onieda Gorilla…my second Onieda. The first one was a 1.5 HP when Onieda was a pretty new company. I sold that one for what I had paid for it 20 years earlier and got the Gorilla. I use a 35 gal drum as well. I like it but the sander fills the filter with fines rather quickly. I was thinking about getting a PM1300TX for just the sander. I have the Oneida Gorilla pro and like it (but I don’t have experience with the Felder DC)
the Oneida is a tall DC and you’ll want at least 9’ celling. I have. 8.5’ with the 35G drum and have 2-3” between the drum and something like 5” between the top of the motor to the calling.
?
I also have the K700s, Profil 45Z and SCM FS7 (20” J/P) with Tersa head and have literally zero chips on the planer/jointer with this DC.

I'm in the 35 gallon drum situation as well. Trying to empty anything bigger is too difficult for me. As for the comments about a widebelt... use a seperator inline between the DC and the sander. I made one out of a trashcan years ago and have a filter inside of it so nothing from the drum sander gets to the DC filter. Brian Lamb blamb11@... lambtoolworks.com

Nathaniel, I had that very discussion with the part owner of Oneida. He was not sympathetic but actually sent me 5 bags for FREE!. I made the point that the Husky 42 gallon contractor bags (they fit over the 35 gallon drum, tight but doable) cost about .85 cents each; how could they justify charging $4.00 a bag. He tried to tell me that is his cost but frankly I highly doubt it. If they are ordering in quantity to supply their customers, he could probably dictate ?I also have the bag retainer from Oneida but I ended up ultimately not using the retainer or the bags because it just seemed not too much additional hassle. I empty the drum outside and sometimes throw some of it in my wife’s composter. Brian…when you say in line separator…are you talking about a second cyclone in line? My experience is the smallest particles go through to the filter that comes after the Gorilla Cyclone? I mentioned the Powermatic PM 1300TX which has the canister filter on top, clear bag on the bottom and a device to knock the fines out of the canister. Ive not done that yet but contemplating. I just used a 35 gallon steel garbage can and made my own cyclone so to speak. The filter is a Goretex HEPA filter, and yes, it cloggs pretty fast, but it totally eliminates having to dig into the internal filter on my Oneida cyclone, which is a pain in the ass to clean. Some pictures attached. Brian Lamb blamb11@... lambtoolworks.com

开云体育Hello, I’ve posted this before. It’d be somebody’s figured out what I’m talking about but it’s just a simple solution.I have 2-60 gallon drums under my cyclone and 160 gallon under my after filter my solution is quite simple. Take plastic drum that’s rigid on both ends. They make them cut the bottom so they just have a sleeve put the plastic bag over the drum put it, put your lid on it and fill it up when it’s filled slipped the sleeve out and the bag of chips sits on the drum cart tied up and get rid of it buy my bags from McMaster-Carr. Granted nothing like my old system that was a 30 foot tall 12 foot diameter with a 10 with a cone on the bottom and the bottom on loader but at this time it does, it does its job martin/campshure/co/llc Designing and building for 50 years On Mar 12, 2025, at 12:54?PM, Jerry Madigan via groups.io <gjm80301@...> wrote:

I use the Husky Contractor bags. They are snug, but not too tight to use. I still need the bag liner to keep the bags open during use. Without a liner the bags collapse inwards, and the chip level sensor indicates the bag is full.
?
Now I just operate with no big in the barrel, and scoop the chips into the heavy duty bags for disposal.
