Bowed cut on a new K3 Winner 2m

I wonder if someone can advise me. My new K3 slider is giving me a 1mm bowed cut over 1800mm length. Is this normal? Is there a calibration procedure for this?
Cheers

Hi Daniel,

What material you are cutting!

Peter

How were you cutting this material? Was this machine ever calibrated? Is this brand new, or did you purchase used and move it yo your current location?

Its seems to be very early for me this morning. You answered most of my questions in your question. I apologize.

There is indeed a calibration procedure and David Best is the one I plan on doing myself.?

You can also pay Felder to come out, but thats up to you.

Can you provide pictures regarding this poor cut?

Thank you

Hullo Peter & H; thank you for your response.
This is a brand new K3 Winner machine (or was last July), helpfully unpacked by Felder in my shop. "No calibration required".

I cut 2" ash, 1" hard maple, 3/4" plywood with consistent results- all bowed cuts.
I test cut a 6' sheet of 3/4" MDF and flipped the offcut over: the clamp in the first picture is not tight, it's just holding the gap closed.

sorry, I don't see how to edit a post. *K3 Saw
The MDF sheet was clamped.
What you see is double the error since the first and second cuts are put together.

I am not sure how you cut this, was it clamped in place? I¡¯ve seen a splitter that¡¯s not centered end up pushing the material around as the cut is performed and you end up with a wavy cut. I would also clamp a piece down make the cut, and while it¡¯s still clamped to the slider, stick an indicator on the cast iron top and slide the just cut edge past the indicator and see if it shows any variations.

All machines need calibration¡ period. And don¡¯t believe anybody that tells you different.

@Brian
Hi Brian. I will definitely try your test this afternoon...
I did centre the riving knife with some shims on the back of the mounting block, and the mdf was clamped in place with the Felder eccentric clamp.
I looked at some videos and I see there are bolts to adjust the slider angle- except what to do if it is not running straight?
Cheers

So you clamped the mdf to the slider. And the offcut is bowed, or is it tapered. Being tapered would make some sense since the slide table is supposed?to toe out. But you said bowed and that is different. I will need to keep thinking.?

If it¡¯s not running straight, then it would be Felder¡¯s responsibility to fix it. I don¡¯t honestly think that I¡¯ve ever seen a slider (that wasn¡¯t damaged) that didn¡¯t cut straight with less than .1mm, so I doubt that the slider is bad.

If memory serves me correctly there was another fellow posting about a curved cut recently. I do not know what the eventual outcome was.

Agree with Brian, the first thing you should do when you get a new machine is validate that it is properly calibrated.? A slider has a lot more going on than at typical cabinet saw.? The more complexity you add, the more that can go out of spec between the factory and your shop floor.?

For what its worth, the biggest issue for me was that my machine's angle gauge was off by a lot.? I think I was getting a couple MM over an 8' cut. I calibrated with an indicator and precision 90 deg and 45 deg gauge -- if you search there are a a couple threads on this topic.? ?? ? ??

Thank-you everyone for the inputs.
@Brian- you are correct about the splitter. I just took it right off, ran a cut and tested with a dial indicator. The runout went up to +0.006" and down to +0.004" at the trailing edge for some reason, so basically a straight cut. I'll work on my riving knife setup! Many thanks.
I just watched David Best's calibration video and will go at it tomorrow.

To?be honest, my riving knife is also out of square with the blade. I have just contacted Felder for some help on that.?

Thanks
Horacio?
