Felder customer service update on my K700S


 

Hello FOG members,

I want to thank David Best & Brain Lamb for passing on the contact info to me for the President of Felder. In hopes to get my issues resolved a bit quicker, maybe. I wasn¡¯t real confident I¡¯d hear from him, and that still holds true as of today. Not one comment from him. And this is after numerous emails now, since now he has been included on each email contact with Tech support.

I received a brand new K700S back on January 3rd, and as of today it¡¯s still not 100% operational. I guess I received the ¡°lemon¡± for this batch of saws!

Many on going issues with the saw. I¡¯ve been back and forth with tech support since day one. I¡¯m telling you the left hand doesn¡¯t talk to the right in this company! After many months of this so far, I just have a small pile of parts sitting in my shop to show for it. I have a total of four 1100mm crosscut fences now, all damaged in oneway or another, marred, scarred, and/or dented. They are messed up. Along with all of the accessory parts that go with each crosscut fence.

I have three rip fence assembly support/guide wheels. They keep sending me a guide wheel, to fix the bouncy one I had originally received with the machine. It¡¯s the exact same wheel each time, and it¡¯s still bouncing! Someone on here mentioned they received a new replacement wheel and it worked for them. Felder claims the new wheel design is made of different material. They are sending me another one, oh boy!

I have a rip fence that still will not calibrate along the support bar. I have completely removed and reinstalled this three times now. It seems to be garbage to me. I set my rip fence to 10¡± using the measure scale, make a cut, it measures 10¡±. Set it at 20¡± or 30¡± and its off. Scale issue, bar issue? I don¡¯t know.

My question to you all. Do you know If there is a commissioning service out there for hire, other than Felder?

I'd commission?the Attorney General's office and maybe get an attorney involved. And find another vendor who can supply and fulfill your needs unlike the one you previously entrusted.

I am surprised that you didn¡¯t get any results contacting Ruan, did you ever call him and talk to him? Emails can be ¡°avoided¡± too easily at times. As for commissioning, I¡¯ve helped several folks locally over the years, but haven¡¯t heard of any independent contractor types out there doing it.

If the rip fence is not accurate, first and foremost, replace the scale. It¡¯s not uncommon to find scales printed incorrectly, first thing I did when I got my machine 20+years ago.?

The wheel, what size diameter, width and hole size are they? McMaster has a lot of options, I would see if you can get a replacement that works better.

I feel your pain pain Wade. I could only imagine the frustration you're experiencing. I can relate to the difficult communications with the Felder folks. I have had a few of my own but is pale in comparison.

On a different note, has anyone else ordered a saw recently and notice that it does not include any F coupling bars on the slider? I ordered extra F channel supports and have no way to attach them to my slider. My old K700 that I ordered over 20 years ago came with a connecting bar that ran almost the entire length of the slider. One would think that the new saws would come with these or that the salesman would simply add it to your saw when ordering your unit with support extensions. One of my extensions fits nicely on the rear of my unit and the other is a very expensive paper weight. I was told that they would make good on this and send me the appropriate slider attachments. Unfortunately, this has fallen between the cracks when dealing with my other issues. Communications has been frustrating and exhausting.?

Hi Ed,

F coupling was replaced with P coupling with Xroll around 2004. You can still get extension tables that mate with P coupling. My 2001 KF700 has F coupling so I had to purchase P coupling, when I got K975 with xroll, so I could continue to use Aigner pressure modules.

Alternatively, John Kee, made 2 simple P couplings out of ply wood and attached a steel bar between them. This way he can use F channel accessories on Xroll.

I believe David Best has machined P couplings to hold some accessories.

This is good information. I wish that I was informed about?this when I ordered these things and why am I not being filled in during my countless inquiries to Felder. Did I buy the wrong supports? I would like to find out more on how to get them to work, if possible.?

Since the X-roll came out any attachment to the slider has to have the P-channel configuration. The backside of the cast iron table still has the F-channel configuration and as such, F-channel accessories are still required to fit there. Felder makes aluminum extension tables to fit the P-channel slider extrusion, just exchange one of your cast iron ones for the proper unit.

Again, thanks for the great input. I feel kind of foolish not knowing this stuff, but better late than never. I just wish I was informed earlier from the sales department.?

If the rip fence is not accurate, first and foremost, replace the scale. It¡¯s not uncommon to find scales printed incorrectly, first thing I did when I got my machine 20+years ago.?

The wheel, what size diameter, width and hole size are they? McMaster has a lot of options, I would see if you can get a replacement that works better.

They keep sending me a guide wheel, to fix the bouncy one I had originally received with the machine. ??It¡¯s the exact same wheel each time, and it¡¯s still bouncing!? Someone on here mentioned they received a new replacement wheel and it worked for them.? Felder claims the new wheel design is made of different material.? They are sending me another one, oh boy!

I have a rip fence that still will not calibrate along the support bar.? I have completely removed and reinstalled this three times now.? It seems to be garbage to me.? I set my rip fence to 10¡± using the measure scale, make a cut, it measures 10¡±.? Set it at 20¡± or 30¡± and its off.? Scale issue, bar issue?? I don¡¯t know. ?

My question to you all.? Do you know If there is a commissioning service out there for hire, other than Felder?

That sounds very frustrating. I can tell you that I just received some parts to upgrade my KF700SP to DRO rip fence configuration, among the parts are the revised support/guide wheel (it rolls very smoothly!), and a rip fence extrusion in perfect condition. I actually didn't request the rip fence, and they also sent multiple other parts I didn't request, looks like I'll be sending some items back. As far as the rip fence goes, if you're getting damaged parts it's probably a combination of less-than-adequate packing, and rough handling by the delivery people.?

Regarding the rip fence calibration, as mentioned by others I'd absolutely request a replacement ruler, or just flip it over and use your own. The bar shouldn't be related to measurement issues unless you have a really wicked skew going.?

Anyways, just wanted to let you know that Felder?can/does?deliver the goods, it sounds like you're getting ravaged by a planetary alignment of poor communication, packing, and rough handling.?

Regarding commissioning services, I know there are a handful of guys in the Minneapolis area who will commission machinery. Last time I checked (several years ago) the labor rate was something around $100/hr. That being said, they were not Felder-specific, and would only be able to help with the mechanical commissioning, the electrical would be a whole different ball game.?

If you haven't already, reach out to David Best to inquire about purchasing a PDF copy of his Survival Guide. I've referenced it extensively while fine-tuning my KF700SP, it took me awhile but his documentation and photos are invaluable, and I have my KF700 cutting like a dream, couldn't be happier.?

You may want to check on lemon law for recourse which in my state (Ohio) applies to retail goods not just cars. The manufacturer would be responsible for 300% of the purchase price plus attorney fees if a legal judgement is made in your favor.? It's unfortunate but you may have to resort to an ultimatum of fixing your machine by x and x date or else you will pursue legal action.? I've been down this road myself with a dealer and distributor, neither wanted to accept a returned machine and they made adjustments even took it offsite for additional calibration.? The final go around the machine still didn't work quite right and the dealer said they would give me partial credit to trade up on a higher end machine. A younger self would have lost it at such a ridiculous suggestion instead I told them legal recourse was my only remaining option which I was going to pursue.? A few days later I met with an attorney, they wrote up the facts and sent copies to dealer and distributor who then picked up the machine along with full reimbursement the following week.

Regarding your question about techs....? Stiles is a company I was working with when obtaining quotes for upgraded equipment they referred me to Mueller which is a regional company in my area. They sell and service machines for several brands, your area is going to be different but give Stiles a call or maybe Mueller 216-372-7102 Jim Perkins they can refer you to someone.

I received my K700S Q4 last year, no problems except the bump on the rip fence where the cast and stamped top meet. I attributed that to the class of machine I bought but seeing the recent post regarding the out of round wheels I will take a closer look. I have DRO rip and larger outrigger with analog scales. If you wanted to compare setup feel free to reach out.
