Electrical question[FOG] Finally found and purchased my Kundig wide belt sander

If your 2 AWG wire that came with the machine is copper, then you can use a 100 amp circuit breaker with it.
If you want to run 6 AWG copper, then the circuit breaker should be 50 amp.? ?Since you already have the 2 AWG wire, I would go that route.
question 4 seems like a NO answer,? ?Just put the 100 amp circuit breaker in the panel and connect the 2 AWG wire to it.? ?Is the 2 AWG wire 2/2?? ?Meaning a white, black and bare wire in the group?
I don't know anything about Euro disconnects.? ?So question 3 is unanswered here.

开云体育The Kundig Manual is not super helpful.? The seller gave me three copies on the manual and all three have different specs for electrical.? One is in a college theme paper binder and it seems to have the most complete specs but it too is confusing. ?
? I have not looked at the motor plate on the 25HP machine but google says 25HP motors @ 230V draw 68A.? Plus the feed motor.? Seems odd that Kundig would spec 6AWG which has a max of around 65A. ? The original owner had a licensed electrician wire his machine and they wired it with 2 AWG wire which looks like it was sized for 130A as that’s the max spec for 2 AWG copper.? ? There was about 35 feet of 2 AWG copper already wired to the machine.? So I decided to extend that with 2AWG and I used a 100A breaker which I found in one guide as the right size for a 25HP 230V 3 phase motor. ? The dust collection specs make no sense either.? The machine has a 7” port and the manual says it needs 2700 cfm and an air speed of 4500 ft per min.? The mechanical engineer in me wanted to dig into that.? The math is pretty simple.? With a port there is direct relationship between CFM and velocity.? For a 7” port:

[email protected] <[email protected]> on behalf of Joe Jensen <joe.jensen@...> ? I decided a few years ago that when I got the large shop I would add a wide belt.? I also decided a wanted a constant line pass where the bed stays stationary and the head moves so infeed and outfeed tables can be fixed.? That narrowed
the field considerably.? I ideally wanted a Kundig 37" or 43" single head with platten as a single head is all I can handle without increasing the dust collection beyond the 5HP Smart collector.? I see 2 head machines 43" machines but I've not found a single
head in 3 years.? Well last week I found an add for a single head 43" Kundig Topic and only 32 miles from my house.? Pics to follow once moved and in place.? |

开云体育As said earlier you are correct which is why the manual makes no sense.? 4500 fpm would mean 1200 cfm.? 2700 cfm would be 10,100 ft per min.? ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]>

Agreed, manual specs don't make sense.? ??
I don't know know anything wide belts specifically, but 25HP is a lot of material removal power, and crude extrapolation from saws suggests to me that 4500 fpm and 1200 cfm is nowhere near enough to pull 25HP worth of dust.? ? I would note that the spec of 2700 cfm @4500 fpm is very close to two 7" ducts could handle.? Is there any chance there's two ports? As one random point of comparison, I glanced at specs for a 25HP grizzly WB and it has six 4" ports, which is close to area of two 7" ducts. Presumably Kundig can help clarify.? |

The CFM in the Kundig manual makes me wonder if the manual was written for a two head with two ports and not edited for the single head machine.? My 43" two head has two 180mm ports.? Dave

开云体育The Kundig has only one 7” port.? Seller had a 5HP Oneida with about 50 ft of duct and in the test before buy dust removal was great. Machine was really clean inside too, and not blown out, I could tell.? I have the same collector and less duct.? I looked a lot at dust collection before buying as in my setup it would be a challenge to put in a bigger collector.? I saw a lot of Kundig two head machines. The 37” two head machines had two 6” ports.? The 43” two head machines have two 7” ports.? The single head machines have just one port. ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]>

Joe, are you running a Smart Collector on the Kundig?? The extra pull under pressure should be a real benefit.? Sanding either wide, or thick pieces are always the problem with a WB.? Too little or too much make up air.? I find that thick pieces are the bigger
issue as the distance from the table to the dust port is greater and the air entering around the stock is more than the DC can pull out.? In those cases a 37" should be much more efficient than my 43" so I'll bet that one 7" port with your smart will be fine
most of the time.? How much gets to the filters and how often you need to clean them will be interesting.? Let us know how it works.? Dave
