Newbie seeking advice????
Jason Gant
Hi Group,
I'm new here, and this is my first posting. I'm not a Felder owner yet, but plan to be soon. I figured I'd hang out here with you folks to learn a bit more about the machines, and maybe you all can help me decide which machine is for me, and with what options? I know I want the 2 function KF-7. Here's my main indecision: Do I get the 8ft KF-7F or the KF-7 with the 78" slider? Are there any reasons NOT to go ahead with the 8ft? Any thoughts? And here's where I'm really stumped: There's a "demo" model KF-7F on the Felder website, with several options I want. Plus they will add the Industrial scoring and ship it to me for alot less than I'd been planning on spending on the 78" KF-7. Could you folks please share some of your Felder wisdom with me? thanks, Jason Gant (in Amarillo, Texas) |

Welcome to the group. Like you, I am also "reviewing" the options categories. Still undecided as to what options are not only necessary, but for the money, are wanted. I view this to be my last toy, so I want it right. As for the table, it is my intent, to buy rough sawn lumber and then finish it myself. With this in mind, the 8' sliding table is required. (that is the story I tell my wife anyway) I attended a show this weekend, looked at another machine, and it was recommended that the 8' table was not needed. I disagree with this input based on my needs. Again, you will need to look at the floor space required to get the full benefit of the slider. If you have the real estate to use it, by all means do it. It has been my experience with talking to the Felder boys, they will not let you screw it up. Another member of this group, John Renzetti, has just what you are thinking of buying. I am sure he will respond to your inquiry. As an x-Texan, where are you going to get the lumber? Amarillo has few, if any trees as I remember it. Rick Strom Virginia Operation -----Original Message-----

-Hi Jason, And right on Rick's cue, here I am. This is what pilots
do when they are not flying. I have the KF7F that is about the same as the demo model being offered. Mine does have the industrial scoring unit. There are times when I wanted the compactness of the 78" slider and others when I wish I had 9 or 10' The 8' slider works well for me. There is a bit of a learning curve with a larger slider. What I like most though is that I can take the outrigger and large crosscut fence off when they are not needed. The scoring unit is a nice option, but not absolutely necessary. Phil Tamarkin has some good ideas and suggestions on chip free scoring without the scoring blade. This is found in the files section. On the shaper I have found a lot of use for the fine adjustment and safety bars on the 240 fence. Personally I would get the new CF700S. I don't think there is that big of a difference in the price of this new series and the demo machine. The new pricing structure takes advantage of the strong US$. Another consideration is that the demo machine comes with the 5.5hp motors. Unless you have 3ph in the shop, you'll need a converter. From what I understand the new series machines can be equipped with a built in inverter type converter which costs considerably less than a seperate phase converter. The downside is that you'll still need a converter if you get other 3ph machines. I think message #145 that Scott Slater posted lists the differences in the new 700 series from the regular 7 series. Also in the files section there are pictures of the new machines. Being about to buy a Felder myself, I'm having similar choicing problems. I am looking at the BF6-31 with outrigger, long sliding table & all the gadgets or for a very similar price the BF741X without the gadgets. Good luck Anthony (Benoni, Gauteng, RSA) Hope the one you choose is right for you ----- Original Message -----

I agree with John about buying the new KF700S machine instead of the
KF7F demo machine. The new machine sells for something like $9390, which as John mentioned is about what they are asking for the "demo" model. One good point about the "demo" model is that it is available immediately, as opposed to 3 months from the date you place the order for the new machine. By the way, my wife knows that I "need" the 9' slider, so I have the KF700S "Pro" on order. This model replaces the KF7X. I'm due the middle of June. Waiting impatiently, Joe |
