You still have other stop switches, at least on the models I am familiar with, along with the emergency stop.

On mine, I have separate main blade and scorer. I can only start remotely either one but cannot stop from there. However, there are 3 stops available for me as I am processing. One is at the near end

Not an issue, the stop on the newer saws is 24v run via the rail, only the start is remote. This was implemented due to eu rules that require a stop where there is a start (or something like that) to

If it was me, I would at least open the old motor to see if the short is outside the windings. Like damaged insulation of the connecting wires. You cannot damage
