Re: Shop videos
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI do a LOT of shop still and video photography. ?Although I have a full studio rig for??work, I don¡¯t bring any of those cameras or lighting into the shop - ever. ?Instead, most of my shop work is done with an iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPad Pro, and a Canon EOS M50 Mirrorless for vlogging. ?I find the iPhone newer models to be absolutely fantastic in terms of image quality, and is what I used exclusively for my recent??on indexable tooling.??I like the Cannon M50 for blogging because of the flip-out screen that moves to the side rather than over or under which compromises use with tripod or on-cameral lighting. ?This way I can see the composition while making videos with me in the frame and still use it with a mount underneath or with hot-shoe lighting. ?If I had to make the choice today, I might opt for the?Osmo Pocket 3 like Paul has because of the subject tracking capability. ?If I wanted a compact interchangeable lens DLSR for vlogging today, I would probably go for the Sony?Alpha ZV-E10, although I haven¡¯t tested it. ?Still looking for a mirrorless DLSR with a body in Mauve. To me, one of the most important and often overlooked aspects of shop photography is how to hold the camera (if not handheld). ?Although I used tripods for studio and field work, I detest using a tripod in the shop - simply because they are difficult to position and set up, and are a terrible trip hazard, all because of the splayed legs. ?Instead I use a Manfroto setup with Super-Clamp (that I can attach basically anywhere) in conjunction with an??system, ball head and Arca-Swiss quick mount system. ?You can see this setup in this video: ?? For those who don¡¯t know, the??system is a dovetail-type quick release mount that attaches to the threaded tripod mount and allows for quick release and moving the camera from one mounting setup to another without lots of fuss. ? In addition to the articulating arm system, I use a really sweet desktop tripod () with ball head that converts to a selfie stick as shown below. I use this with the??(although there are other similar brands) with the Arca-Swiss mount for quick release. ? For camera work on machines, I have adapted the Arca-Swiss quick mount to the Noga Mag Base units with articulating arms as shown below. ?I have a number of strategically placed steel plates overhead which I can use as mounting points for this Noga setup. Hope this is informative. David Best DBestWorkshop@... https://www.flickr.com/photos/davidpbest/collections/ https://www.youtube.com/@David_Best

Hammer zero clearance insert
Hi,
?
Just a heads-up that I've updated my model for the zero clearance insert for the various Hammer sliding table saws https://www.printables.com/model/492157-hammer-c3-zero-clearance-insert. Along with other improvements, the fusion model is now also capable of generating the model for different tilt angles of the blade. To achieve this functionality in the model I made the below measurements of the lateral movement of the saw blade for different angles.

Re: OT: What totally unexpected things you have found in the shop
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýMachining used material ?is probably number one. Or? Normally, that shit happens when you screw together fixtures the Screw go through the face ?of the fixture that¡¯s probably the most common one that ends up with scratches the table in the second one is people ramming stuff through the saw blade and the saw blade starts to wobble and cut s into the side of the sliding table. High-speed steel blades are notorious for that never use those on the slider.martin/campshure/co/llc Designing and building for 50 years On Nov 1, 2024, at 10:59?AM, PK via groups.io <pk@...> wrote:

Re: OT: What totally unexpected things you have found in the shop
I had asked him to make a new top for the docking saw. He laminated two pieces of material together. Threw a few staples in then screwed it together. The staples were a bit too long, and when he went to trim it to size, that's when the damage happened. What upset me was that he didn't even notice that it wasn't sliding nicely on the machine and he managed to do so much damage.?
Ah the joys of having employees! ;)

Bryce

Re: Adding smart stand with DC70 to tilt bracket
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYes you should ?. Just kidding Bryce. I believe most who have participated in this thread have Felder tilt bracket. At least I did not read otherwise. I shared my experience to add information. Is it possible that the Felder solution is not as powerful? I can say that the ¡°Big Lift¡± which was shared here and I have built it for myself and few others definitely reduces the effort in both directions. I believe, I have the heaviest PF Felder makes and it is not an issue to lift it. I am 64, 5¡¯ 8¡± and 160#.Imran Malik On Oct 31, 2024, at 7:21?PM, Bryce Comer via groups.io <bryce@...> wrote:

Re: OT: What totally unexpected things you have found in the shop
After just 3 days with a new employee, and about 4 hours after me going through everything on the CF741 (& actually bringing up the point that the slider is aluminum and to be careful) this happened. You could say it was unexpected!

Re: OT: What totally unexpected things you have found in the shop
Tim Ruth,
I didn¡¯t anticipate the woodchuck (as I remember them as) Bees ? eating the lumber outside but covered on racks, I was more concerned about termites and vermin. Those bees are scary looking but not aggressive. Their tunnels were very smooth and well crafted, perhaps they should be called woodworker bees? |
Re: CF531 delayed stop
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýBryce, For this reason, I asked Laurie about speeding up or brake disengaging. He confirmed that it actually speeds up. So my first shot in the dark is that K1 contacts are sticking. Imran Malik On Oct 31, 2024, at 1:24?PM, Bryce Comer via groups.io <bryce@...> wrote:
? Ok, so here is a pic of the brake board. It should allow some adjustment, see picture, should be P1-Time to stop ?P2-Torque to stop faster. It is a fine balance, the board can wear out over time making full adjustment range not possible. Fine adjustments suggested!!
Hope this helps.

Bob,
?
I use Four cameras:

?
I self shoot and have two tripods.? I like the Osmo pocket 3 but the Sony has slightly better video and the wireless mic system I have works better than the Osmo.? The Osmo is easy though.

Re: Adding smart stand with DC70 to tilt bracket
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýBryce,My experience with homemade gas strut is similar. I have vario4 which is pretty heavy. I don¡¯t have video of lifting but I can start the lift with one finger. I do have a video of taking it down as it can be seen there is not much load on the user. |

Reading through the comments on this thread, its really interesting to hear that some people are still finding lifting the feeder a bit of a chore even with the gas strut assisted bracket. I just got one when i bought my new machine, and find it an absolute game changer! I had the regular tilt away bracket on my old machine with the F38 feeder, and that really was a chore to lift. Admittedly i have the Comatic DC40 on the new machine so a lighter unit for sure, & mounted on the tilt away bracket with the gas strut, but oh my what a difference! I can lift it up with one hand and very little effort at all. I always put the feeder into a certain position before tilting it away, so wonder if that has something to do with how easy it is?
