Re: Preventing Chipout
开云体育Good point Brian. Since this was done upside down on shaper, the shear action was in opposite direction than being helpful.Imran Malik On Jan 4, 2024, at 3:03 PM, Brian Lamb <blamb11@...> wrote:

Preventing Chipout
开云体育This is just a shelf that goes on top of friends dog crate. I chamfered with Felder 150 mm shear rebate head at 45 deg and got a chip out in one spot. In this particular case, the shelf was elevated by a piece of plywood so the wood was backed up even though there is a gap in the table around the cutter. Is there a way to minimize chances of this happening, like putting a tape on the surface being milled? I know it is risky to do it on the end grain. Perhaps, I should have done it in couple of passes. Imran Malik |

Re: How to flush mount raised panel cutter
Hey Dan, Whitehill actually does have a carbide insert style of panel raiser that can be flush mounted for very deep profiles too but for shorter runs that limiter style of block will serve you well. I have the same one David refers to below except smaller and it has served me very well. ?Actually used it to reproduce some wooden siding on an historic home in town one time too! ?Brace yourself when you turn it on though, it moves a lot of air! ?Like David said, custom profiles are available and if you're running abrasive materials, Whitehill will tip them in carbide for you too.?
The head you're referring to is a combi head, and the 125x55 would serve you well on your machine. ?It's worth double checking that the top cap system on your machine is what the blocks are designed for....they have changed over the years so worth a double check. ?That combi will take 55mm knives and you can get your cope and stick profiles on one knife if you want. ? Hi Mac,
Yes, the snowflake made it to its new home. ?I have yet to use it. ?I put the drift master on it, but need to run it to dial in the fence. ?Got power and dust collection. ?I noted when putting on the blade that the bottom guide assembly swiveled. ?I guess it got loose during shipment. ?To tighten it, I need to screw in a square 5/16 bolt. ?My normal 5/16 wrench will not fit as the bolt is behind the guide assembly surrounded by iron where I can feel it but not see it and no room for the wrench. ?I have a 5/16 square socket on order and a couple of very short wrenches and that arrives tomorrow. Hi Patrick, I did not have the old drift master and so can't personally compare. ?Jesse has experience with both and so perhaps if you call to order one, he can give more info on that. |

Re: The New Improved Laguna Driftmaster
Interesting. I was curious why they discontinued the production a couple years ago, and this answers that curiosity! I had a second-hand driftmaster that i used for about a year before reselling for a profit. Overall, i love the concept of the driftmaster, but in practice it wasnt?quite 'perfect'. For times where you had to remove the fence from the table, i found it to be an arduous?task. On my LT20, sometimes you need the extra couple inches that the fence occupies when cutting parts out of a board. Other than that, switching between quick adjustment and fine adjustment was clunky. I remember there was a threaded coupling that disengaged from the threaded rod, and sometimes it did so smoothly and sometimes it did not.? What are your initial thoughts? Did you own an 'old' driftmaster? I would love to know what improvements they made.? Patrick On Wed, Jan 3, 2024 at 2:09?PM joelgelman via <joelgelman=[email protected]> wrote: Hello FOG |

The New Improved Laguna Driftmaster
Hello FOG
This is an FYI. ?There is a new Laguna Driftmaster. ?I got the first one from Jesse at Eagle Tools. ?Enclosed is a picture of it when it was at Eagle Tools. ?I am told that it is not officially released yet, but I was talking to Jesse the morning and he has a few in stock as he got an early shipment. ?I figured some of you may have an interest. ?I have no business interest but figured some of you would want one! Re: You get what you pay for. Cheap digital fence readout.
Mariusz,
Blocks are solid aluminum and it took forever to mill out the pockets. ? The wall thickness is thinner at the bottom of the block so I could have space to tuck in all the excess wiring. ? My mag strip and steel cover are actually mounted on the rear vertical wall of the T-slot so dust and debris that collects in the slot shouldn't interfere with the read head. ?There is a 12mm wide UHMW guide block that fits in the track that acts as a guide and also a spacer to lower the read head to the right height. ? The bottom of the blocks have 5 mil UHMW strips on them so they glide smoothly and won't scratch the fence. ?? -Rusty |
