Hi William,

Just to confirm, is the T version compatible with the Xroll slot or did you have to adapt the bottom piece?

Thanks,

Bill

Re: Eccentric clamp alternatives?

I usually just lurk and learn, but An alternative to the Harvey clamp is from bridge city,?

I picked up a couple from lee valley a couple years ago and they work well on my k3 slider, just need to adapt them to fit the t track, I think I added a washer.?

Re: Eccentric clamp alternatives?

A few months ago I purchased a Compass AH-3 from Harvey $220 and it works great. I will not used the eccentric cam clamp again.?

Dan,

Are you still making and selling the zero clearance inserts?

Hi again Chris,?

Here is the one I purchased several years ago ...

$139 AUD at Beyond Tools.

Re: Eccentric clamp alternatives?

Thank you so much splinterboy!!! This is above and beyond! I really appreciate this. That's exactly what I needed. Now I understand everything. Thinking about laminating a slice of HDPE under the washer as sliding material. The idea of making 3 or 4 t-nuts is a fantastic idea.
Thanks again!!

Re: You get what you pay for. Cheap digital fence readout.

This is my solution.
It clears the large kip lever.

Re: Eccentric clamp alternatives?

Chris, ? The dimensions are not super critical. ? You want the T-nuts to slide easily in the slot. ? If you are making them, check the fit along the entire length of slider as some of us have found that the extruded slot is not completely uniform and you may have a tight spot. ? Make several nuts and insert them on both sides of your normal fence set up so there is always one where you need it. ? Make the large washer at least as big as the Felder one so you don't distort your table. ?Add a soft face to the underside.

Below is one of my Kreg clamp t-nuts. ? I did not come up with this idea but it is brilliant as these clamps are much easier and quicker to use. ? You just drop them in the keyhole slot and slide them over. ? These do need to be pre-adjusted for height as you don't screw them in (which is why they are so convenient). ? A couple of set screws allow you to adjust the nut for a nice sliding fit in the slot and match the top surface height for all of your t-nuts. ? This allows the cap screw head be set once at just the right length to engage any of the t-nuts without any further adjustment (some thread locking compound is helpful here). ??

There's an ever easier option if you happen to have Festool clamps and lack machining access. ? ?A simple piece of off-the-shelf T track can be put upside down in the slider slot and and used with the Festool track clamps. ?The fit is a little sloppy but this is a 5 minute project if you have the parts handy.?

Re: Eccentric clamp alternatives?

Edited

What I'm really interested is the tnut and top oversized washer dimensions if any one has them. Does the tnut have an M20 thread and the top washer just a pass through? Or is the tnut and washer connected regardless of the M20 post? Any pictures would be appreciated. I can design my own clamp system. I should know that I haven't received my kf700 yet so can't measure the slider slot etc.
Thanks,
Chris.

Geez David...

Not much to add.? It is home and waiting for its spot in the new shop...? Thanks Kelly.

The concrete we had to remove to execute the shop is being poured on 1-2-24.? We should get the final immediately after and then it is on me.

Re: Eccentric clamp alternatives?

I¡¯m not a big fan of that Felder clamp either. It¡¯s too big too heavy bulky and difficult to adjust. I used to have a Mini Max, and theirs was just right. I¡¯m going to find a different one to use. Actually thinking of hijacking a Mini Max clamp and finding a machinist to mill and drill a bar for me. Anyone already done this?

Re: Hammer HS950 for sale #forsale

Did you buy it at the Machinery Max auction?? I was bidding on the WBS but I would have had to spend $3K more than if I had bought the same sander from them four months earlier.

?I had eccentric clamp on FD250. The part I disliked most was that, when unlocking, if the handle got away, it would travel all the way and eventually stop after hitting the material. Not sure if this happened because my clamp was old. If it happens on a new clamp, it is a shame because it dented soft woods like cypress and cedar.

Someone on FOG gave me the idea to flip the puck in the clamp. This swapped the clamping and unclamping motions - clamping with handle moving towards material and unclamping with handle moving towards the horizontal bar. This solved my problem.

?My experience echoes that of Aaron. The eccentric clamp is heavy and awkward. There is a learning curve for achieving just the right depth setting, and it moves the workpiece forward. Perhaps there are situations that require the extra strength of the eccentric clamp, but for the work I do with 3/4 inch sheet goods and up to 8/4 hardwood, the Kreg type clamp is adequate and more convenient.

The Felder eccentric clamp is seriously heavy and big. ?It¡¯s likely going to cost you another $250 USD just to ship it uninsured to AUS! ? Likely not worth it, unless he really wants this clamp, lol.

Chris - those of us who have not gotten Mac¡¯s air clamps will generally use the following combination for Felder sliding table slots (with Australia seller links):

The Kreg bench clamp works great and is fast and easy. ? Just keep in mind that the Kreg clamp tends to pull the material back just a big when clamping down (like about 1mm). ? The 6¡± Kreg clamp will actually reach over the Felder crosscut fence, so you should clamp down that forward clamp first. ?It will pull the material against the fence. ?Then you can clamp down the rear clamp. ? Or make sure you hold down the material while clamping and you should be fine.

The Felder clamp, on the other hand, will tend to push the material forward when clamping, so it works great as a rear clamp, but not so much as a forward clamp (reaching over the crosscut fence).
