Re: Flat Top Grind Blade
I appreciate all of these replies!
I am not sure what you mean by fine joinery (all we do is mighty fine, right?) The last time I bought blades was long ago, and I thought rip blades were flat-top and fewer teeth, like Jeff said. Some call a rip blade one with a steep rake angle and a deep gullet, and that describes the ATB “rip” blade I bought from Tenryu. It seems to work pretty well, although I have not done much ripping with my new saw yet. The most demanding thing I would do with this blade is cut slots and rabbets for small box lids. I could do that with a router table, but I have done it quickly and easily with an FTG rip blade on my old cabinet saw. I’ve done channels for drawer bottoms, as well as slots/dados for door panels and larger rabbets with it also. My old blades are all Systematic. Years ago they were supposed to be good blades, but apparently they sold out to someone who produces some poor products. -- John Hinman Boise ID K700S, and expecting an A941 in April 2022 |

开云体育Thanks David and Mark, John did not mention fine joinery rather flat bottom cuts so I thought I had the perfect option for him. No Problem. Wonder if Leitz offers one in Aqua marine (Mauve to the color blind crowd ?). Imran On Mar 17, 2022, at 10:51 PM, david@... via groups.io <david@...> wrote:

Haha! I’ll keep that in mind. Unfortunately the double postage between us would likely dampen our enthusiasm for a swap!

I had Leitz custom grind one of their standard blades specifically for joinery work. ?I believe the up-charge was about $25 over the cost of the new blade which was about $130. ?I recommend
you call?Mark Gallagher at Leitz in Kent WA (he’s the closest to you and services Boise) at??(253) 651-8977?, and tell him what you need. ?You can also email him: ?mgallagher@...
This is the specific blade I had them grind to flat-top. ?It’s 300mm diameter, with 72 teeth. ?You could reference their part number when you talk with Mark if this is the configuration you want.

Re: I’m on the fence, about choosing a parallel fence.
After having the Felder option for years collecting dust it has become quite useful this past week in combination with Brian’s version and the less talked about Lamb Toolworks fence digital stop.

Re: Airtight Clamps on a K700S
Well that got more attention than anticipated.
1. Yes the slider will lock in 2 positions if the arrows are nicely lined up. Like threading a needle. 2. The red stripe is a reminder to not wrap my fingers under the slider in this lowered position. 3. Moving an air clamp over will interfere with the overhead guard if I interpret the suggestion correctly. I like the idea of a tiny cylinder or two in the lower slider that press up under the table to lock it in? Imran can even make a remote for it…In Mauve.? 4. Why are the comatic feeders such an ugly color? 5. The long T nut accessory over around 4” wouldn’t slide in over the handle (see Imran’s photo showing the cut notch). I posted a 3D printed?insert to use festool clamps prior to getting Macs clamps. -- Mike B |
Re: Flat Top Grind Blade
Aren't all rip blades FTG?? That said, as in Lucky's example above, I recently sent of the combination blade that came with my (you should pardon the expression) SawStop to be ground flat at 10 degrees for use with a dovetail sled.? It cost $25.00, was returned to me in 48 hours, including shipping, and works perfectly.? I sent it to CT Saw & Tool () and can personally highly recommend them.? John, do you have a Leitz rep in your area? Leitz have an enormous catalog of tooling and I’ve bought several blades from them which are “blanks” in that the carbide teeth are flat, ready for whatever profile the customer wants. I took one blade “as is” which
makes perfectly flat-bottomed grooves at 3.2mm widths, and I had a second blade ground “all one way” at 8 degrees so I could use it for machine cut dovetails.?

Re: Retiring and Selloing Everthing
You should also consider your selling motivation/strategy. For example, your Hammer A3/41 will sell in a heartbeat if your price is 'reasonable'. That's fine if you want to just get rid of stress about selling the stuff and giving someone a gift. (I'm pretty sure that would describe me).
If you want to get as much as you can, price it higher than reasonable and wait a bit. I put my Hammer a3/31 up for sale here and on Craigslist and had at least five serious buyers in a couple of hours. I sold it the next day. I was fine with it and the new owner was delighted, but it was likely priced too low. It won't take too much research to find the right price to sell it. And if you are too low, you'll know in hours. |
