Re: Fritz and Fran jigs

I built a very basic one. It has worked well for me and I keep saying I build a better one. But since the basic one does what I need it to do I have yet to build a better nicer one.

I have seen some very nice and very over engineered ones here. But I guess that is what we Felder owners do.

It was in Portland.?

In what city you find the KF00? Was it in the Chicago area?

Re: Fritz and Fran jigs

Suggestion is to make a basic one first, learn from usage of that and decide if it's worthwhile to either buy a commercially available one or develop a version better suited for one's needs and use-cases.?

F&F, I have found, is a somewhat personal tool and there are many variations to it.?

FWIW, I have 2 types of extension tables that go on Flat bar - F type. Assuming this is what you have on this machine, both of these have adjustment screws to make the table level with machine surface. So a slight adjustment should not affect your ability to use an extension table properly.

The two I use are:

I be darn, not sure what one would get if you order this cast iron table. Mine has height adj screws as shown in the pic with planer (arrows) but website also has a pic w/o the two height adj screws.

I don't have an extension table on the infeed side of the machine, so I don't know what effect this will have on the height of such an extension table in the future. I imagine that the raising of the bar will have to be infinitesimal to not have a detrimental effect on the use of an extension table, should I buy one.

Apparently the FW 850 will be debuting in August at the IWF.

Search continues.

Hit send too soon on the draft, I think this is the detail you were looking for. Credit to my former neighbor who owned the saw before I did for doing this. It's very nice.

Having just completed my own duct work, I¡¯ll second the saw envy. I used a cut-off saw which was more time consuming than a grinder because the pipe wouldn¡¯t fit under the blade, but I think I could keep my cuts a little more square.

Bob, is that melamine on the saw¡¯s outrigger your own build? That looks pretty nice.

Thanks for the shop pictures.

Re: Fritz and Fran jigs

Felder sells one made by RUWI for Hammer as well, but it is quite expensive, especially since a basic version can be made very cheap by oneselves.

There are a lot of Taiwan sanders that are decent choices here.? Houfek also makes a lot of smaller sanders.? I don't know if they are Easter Euro , Taiwan, or China though.? The EMC sourced machine Felder used to sell might have been the pick of the litter in small sized sanders.? I don't know if they still offer it.? Dave

Gasp! ?Seriously, $16K for THAT??? ? ?I think several of us are singing the same tune here. ?At $16K, that Felder WB is not competitive. ?Plus, given the horrible experience others have had with the lower end larger Classic WB from Felder, why would anyone want to be the pioneer here? ??

The FW850 description posted makes reference to an "electro-pneumatic platen¡±?which would make me want to run as fast as possible in the opposite direction. ?Pneumatic bladder-type platens require highly sophisticated sensors and electronics to control properly, otherwise they produce snipe and rounded-off edges and corners. ?Read one users assessment of Felder¡¯s larger ¡°entry level¡± machine here which has that same type of platen: ?/g/felderownersgroup/message/84493??

I love my simple 17¡± open-side WB (), but if I had to have a 24¡± unit, there¡¯s no way I would consider the Felder FW850 - instead I would be looking at the Laguna (link below). ?It has the same platen setup as my WB which has proven to be reliable and does not round-off edges like a poorly controlled pneumatic bladder unit.
