Re: RL 125 CFM with new filter

Hi Ariel,

Yes, I drilled about the size hole needed by the probe near the DC. Tied the probe with twist tie so I do not have to hold it. There is no display in probe and results show is blue tooth app. It made it really easy to just open close various gates to take readings.

I will check out what you have but it appears there is a technical threshold with this thermal type speed probes and pretty much 30m/s is what I see.

I have not investigated to find out how the ones able to measure higher work. I know I am not going to spend more than a ~$100 that this probe cost.

Its an L bracket with a block of wood to off set the weight so when lifted with the tables up with a pallet jack it tilts back slightly and is easier and mor balanced to move around.

Jason,

Thanks for sharing, what a sobering read that first post was!!! I hope Craig comes out of this okay, sounds like he's already on track to.

Re: A note of caution

I don't honestly know if I'd want to trust my health to any of them.? Android really wants to freeze background apps that you don't interact with so it can save power, and over time there's been a sort of arms race between app developers and the core of Android.? A fall app that isn't actually running when you fall isn't going to do you any good.? Just because it works today doesn't mean that it's going to work next week, and it really doesn't mean that it's going to work 6 months from now.? Honestly, IOS isn't really any better here.? They're both hyperaggressive about killing off background services; that's pretty much the only reason that your battery lasts more than a few hours.? You're almost certainly better off with a watch that advertises this as one of its core features.

The Suvamatic jointer guard is a wonderful add-on with its ability to "rise over" or "slide along", and I seriously considered it, but it protrudes 225 mm (~9 in) minimum and could protrude up to 550 mm (~21.5 in) from the side of the machine. In my tiny shop space I couldn't see walking around that bump constantly, notwithstanding the $2,000+ price tag.

There is really no point in measuring less than 30 hz and you don't need to slow the motor to the point where the fan isn't cooling the motor.? There should be a function for current draw.? My vfd is at least 15 years? and has more functions than I ever use.? Dave

Thanks Dave. I caution I read with slowing motor (not designed for that purpose) is that fan slows with it. I think that really becomes an issue if speed is substantially reduced. Unfortunately, my VFD (old) does not display current; I will double check the manual.

Thanks again for the ideas. I will work on these on Monday.

David,

Thanks for the idea. I can measure current draw but your response me think that maybe I can run the motor slower (since i run it with VFD) just for a short time to see if I can get the CFM in meter range. As our resident motor expert, you think it would be okay to do so? I am hoping that it would only take a bit 80-90% of full speed. It is 4KW, 3 phase motor.

Imran, can you measure the amp draw with all gates open and compare that to the cfm reading ?? Then close various gates or partially and match the amp draw with the new cfm readings to get a rough fan curve.? Down the road you can compare amp readings and plot them against your prior curve to see how the filter affects the cfm.? Dave

Does anyone have an idea how much CFM will be reduced when new filter gets dirty? I have few days to return the anemometer and don't have much planned work.

I am curious what the collective thinks about making just a comparative readings with partially closed gates. Just looking for a solution to determine the status of the filter in future.

BTW, I failed to report that the light (for difference in pressure) never turned off with new filter installed. I may have to open the sensor like someone else did here.

Finally, Bill is correct, the differential pressure sensor compares negative pressure below the filter (dirty side) with ambient.
