Re: way off topic but

Glenn,
? ? ? ? ? ?I ran a timber business in Northern Ireland for twenty four years. For approximately a five year period during that time, we stored all of our machined hardwoods and softwoods in twenty foot containers double stacked. On the ground floor containers, we racked them out with 2"x1" box iron frames in 24"x24" sections. Bolted an Elu chop saw on the inside of the door for easy ?cross cutting of the timber.
No more twists or shakes than normal, no damp or water ingress ,although we have a very different climate from you!?
Great for security, easy to reconfigure storage in your premises as no planning permission required, and no local council taxes applicable, as containers were regarded non permanent structures and we moved them around every six months.

That's 730 kWh/month reduction, which is $90 at $.0125/kWh, which seems to be about the residential rate where you live.

You new lights produce about 25% fewer lumens compared to average fluorescents, which is part of your savings.? If it seems just as bright, it's a testimony either to the previous bulbs being worse than average?and/or the benefits of LED being more directional, wasting fwer lumens.

Dave just for reference all my 2011 F700Z spindles 30mm, 1 1/4" and the router spindle have zerks. I think Felder went all sealed bearing for shapers and JPs around 2015. When I was in the trade we typically reused the nut if it was in good shape and just added a couple of drops of blue loctite. Proper torque is the most important thing.

It might be that the zerks are only on the router spindle as those bearings need to run faster.? I can see the shield in the first picture.? For those that replace those bearings, an incandscent bulb can serve as a bearing heater.? I usually replace the lock nut on the bottom as some say they shouldn't be reused.? I don't know so I err on the side of replacement.? Seals and shields are quite different and affect the speed limit of the bearings.? There are noncontact seals but they are rare and usually more expensive.? Dave

I don't think the previous owner ever performed a single maintenance procedure on the saw..The belts were also replaced because the original belts (15 year old) were still on it and cracking, so I replaced the main belt and scoring belt. I upgraded the blade brake circuit board to the newer and better circuit board and had the digital read-out for blade height and blade angle calibrated to read correctly.? I am proud to say that the saw is now 100% restored and everything works as it should.

Looks like lack of proper lubrication over time did them in. At least with the new setup you won't have to worry about maintenance. Like Mac stated earlier about sealed bearings, expected life span of at least 10 years with normal use.?

Subject: [FOG] Felder K975 arbor bearing

The main blade arbor bearings went out on my K975 and had a new, improved version put in by the Felder tech Jason.? The bearings on the new arbor shaft are a lot beefier and sealed, unlike the bearings on the original shaft, which were not sealed.? The bearing really got burned up as you can see from the pictures.? It didn't take long really to get the old arbor out, maybe 30 minutes.? The new arbor and how it's designed will allow me to swap out the bearings much easier than the old style and I won't need a tech to do it either, that's the beauty of the new design.? I forgot to take pictures of the new arbor, but will ask Felder to send me a few

In about 2004 I purchased a copy of the "Felder Unofficial Survival Guide"
?. It's been in hiding in my shop since I moved about six years ago. I sold my BF631 when I moved. However, I buying a Hammer, which will be shipping around the new year and need some money.?

If you want to buy it for $100, I'll sell it to one of you, rather then eBay it.
