Re: Switch on slider?

If you do a lot of large panel work,?IMHO definitely worth it.

Sure, if you expect to be walking around the machine it is a trip hazard.

Believe me, you are doing the right thing by staying away from mag base. When things go wrong there could be a big impulse of power and not sure how the mag base will handle that. Besides safety, mag base is not going to work even with a 3 wheel feeder unless you are Mr. Universe. Feeder without assist on tilt bracket is bad enough for most and therefore, fortunately, someone came up with big lift.

The attractiveness of the mag base idea was that I could use the standard setup and just reposition it and/or move it to a future band saw, but I want to take the advice of those skeptical of the manner of loading and unloading the feeder as well as questions about magnet holding power for a feeder that heavy. It also seems like the 1/4HP and smaller feeders might be underpowered and therefore not really a complete safety answer on the 4HP shaper?

For saw use, there are times when I think back that the feeder might have been nice on my cabinet saw. I don’t know if that’s more or less true with the slider – fritz/franz jigs for small pieces and clamping to the sliding table instead of using the table saw fence for a reference, etc.

My two head gets 120-180.? The machine has basic adjustments and shares one motor.? When I need a lower grit, I remove the platen to take the second head out of the picture so I don't mess with the relationship between the two heads.? In some ways, a single head is easier to cope with in a small usage shop.? My small 25" is set to match the planer with 180 ( assuming the battery hasn't died ).? If I go to lower than 150 I add X thou depending on the grit to compensate so I don't screw up my setting for the 180 planer match which is 90% of my use on that machine.? Dave

We have 120 on our machine most times. We buy 60 and 80 for slab leveling work, and also 180. As Dave said, the 180 with the platten leaves a remarkable surface. That's a nice little machine, you'll enjoy it. Had one quite a few years ago now.

A close friend is a Dr volunteer on the county medial board for Maricopa Co AZ.? Apparently 80% of AZ deaths are in nursing homes or on the Navajo Nation where 38% of home have no running water.? The median stay in a nursing home before death is 5 months.? The averages is 14 months which is skewed by a small number of people who live there for a long time.? Before Covid people would pass away in a nursing home from all matter of things, even an ear infection.? Now Covid is the “cause” of death but most of these folks were just one setback from anything away from death.? Remember that a nursing home is a skilled care facility for people who need round the clock skilled and nursing care.

Subject: [FOG] What sandpaper grits to order?

I have the Northstate 16” WB sander. Even though manual says 16” belt I received it with 17” wide belts and I do not see anything wrong with the width. This is a freebie question, please let me know if you have any suggestions?

Okay, so this WBS is new to me and I received it with 80, 120 & 150 belts. 120 & 150 seem close. Planning to order 60, 120 & 220. Sound good?

I also just bought rigid oscillating sander

Came with 80 grit on belt and drums. Klingspor has a set of 60, 100 & 150. Do I need any higher grits?

On belt I am ordering 40, 80, 150 & 220. Sounds good?

As far as materials go, solid soft & hard woods, ply and occasional metals on the rigid.

Thanks,

Imran
