Re: Drill Bits

Glen, drilling ?” into 1” plate is not an easy task - especially if you’re doing a lot of them. ? But for that application I would recommend two different potential strategies. ? The first would be to use cobalt bits. ? Cobalt is much harder than HSS and they can stand up to a lot of abuse. ? They are not cheap, especially in large sizes, so you might want to consider buying some individual bits instead of a complete set. ? I would step up from 1/4” to 1/2” to 3/4”. ? If you’re doing this in a hand-held drill, you will get a lot of chatter and a pretty crappy hole. ? Might be worth renting a mag-base drill. ? McMaster carries anything you need in the cobalt drill bit category. ? One example: ? ? ?I have this set and it is fine - much better than anything from the big-box outfits: ?? ?

If you have a lot of them to do, and if you are able to do the drilling on a drill press or with a mag-base drill, I suggest you consider an annular cutter instead of a series of twist drills. ? ? Here is a carbide-tipped 3/4” that would work well - you need an adapter for a DP, but they will chuck right onto a mag-base drill if you rent one of them. ?? ?

Mac,

I think it is a good decision to use vertical boards towards bathroom. 20% to 60% sustained humidity results in moisture content change between 5% & 11%. Assuming you use 5.5” wide qtr dawn boards:
Cherry bd will change by .044”
Hemlock bd will change by .033”

If you did not have any gaps in T&G total change over door dimensions is big (.67” vertically, .22” horizontally) but the visible gap that you show in your T&G design should make each board’s movement local.

I am always for over engineering. As an added insurance I would consider doweling the middle horizontal board to hemlock. This will cut the vertical change in dimension in half.

Cherry is very stable .
Hemlock is to bath side, vertical

This is the t and g I use.

Interesting that you do not have a new topic option at the bottom of each msg, I do. Still I just type a few letters in the to: field and following pops up, so super easy to start a new thread [email protected]

I may start using my gmail for groupio. It will separate FOG traffic from the rest.

I do have the option in the email to view and reply online. Hope this makes some sense.

Jerry,

Not sure what you mean. I went into settings and I am setup for individual emails. I see the option of a digest which groups 12 msgs into a single email.

This is not what I am talking about. I am talking about each msg that is posted, as in my reference thread, has older msgs embedded into it.

BTW, the number of total msgs grow in an arithmetic series as follows:
1,2,3,4,5 .. 30

As shown above, if there are 29 replies to an original post instead of only having 30 total msgs the sum of this series is 465.

Re: Should we make a policy on proper way to reply

I always use the web app (even on my mobile phone). Turned off email notifications when I first joined the group at Yahoo, and now Groups.io. These two platforms are among the most archaic I've seen in terms of web apps. Groups.io can easily implement what Gmail has had for years; automatic collapse of quoted text and that would solve it at the product level.?

In terms of the user "policy" on replies - I doubt that'll be effective - the burden shouldn't be on the members for a product problem.

Is this forum a paid Groups.io account? Maybe we can get some direct feedback to the team there.?

I have no problem in email because on iPhone no matter how long the msg is there is an arrow on my screen bottom that brings up the reply menu. What prompted me to bring this up is the time it took (on web interface) to scroll down, using my cellphone, to reach the reply button.

I can certainly live with the way it is as I seldom use the web interface.

I do like Ray’s proposal to have this built in, not sure if it is possible. Even if possible, I assume, it will only work on the msgs posted on the web.
