Re: Sample FOG on discourse.org platform
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýMark,I don¡¯t quite understand this group, but I¡¯m getting emails back only from conversations/categories I¡¯d joined in. Nothing from other sections, is there a way to change that so all posts go to all members? If not, this isn¡¯t the one we want to consider. On Jan 17, 2018, at 6:04 PM, murkyd@... Re: AD741 slow to spin up
Dave,
I have given up on Felder and ordered two of these from Amazon. ?Figure I might as well replace both while I'm at it. ?Do you know if there is a polarity that must be respected when installing these? ?I have cut off the cable that attached to the old capacitor and I need to know if it matters which of the two wires is attached to which terminal of the new capacitor. ?I will also need to figure out how to attach the wires to the terminals on the end of the new capacitors. ?I sure am grateful for suggestions, because I'm not very knowledgeable about this electrical stuff. K940s
Hey fellas,
New member and first time posting here, though I¡¯ve been reading all of the back and forth for the past week or so. So, I¡¯m buying a slider. It was a debate considering I purchased a large (16¡¯x6¡¯) capacity cnc towards the beginning of last year. But it seems there are things the slider can do much faster than my jointer or cnc. I work almost exclusively in solid wood mostly making table tops from slabs, but I have some demand for solid wood cabinets which I typically turn down because I hate using our sawstop with sled to square pieces, switch to dado, back to regular blade etc. So clearly the slider can square cuts and straight line rip quickly. My salesman priced the k940s at only 2k more than the k700 citing the larger blade capacity as the only reason to go with the 940. Does anyone have experience with both saws? The 940 was discounted from 19 or 20k to 15k and the 700 from 16k to 13k with similar features. He is also throwing in 3 blades. I¡¯m also debating between 10¡¯ and 12¡¯ sliding capacity. Any thoughts? |

Re: KF 700 SP options
Cool, 20 minutes driving for me to get to their office. I look at shaper tooling in their catalog, lots of various cutters. My Felder Mississauga sales person recommended Royce-Ayr to me before. Right from them through a sales rep, they have an amazing facility not far from you. I had a tour a couple of years ago and was really impressed with the tooling manufacture, especially the diamond section. Everything done in house as far as I could see. John, Do you buy tooling from Royce-Ayr directly or thru their distributor? Thanks, James On Thu, Jan 18, 2018 at 10:21 AM, John Kee jmkserv@... [felder-woodworking] <felder-woodworking@...> wrote:

Re: KF 700 SP options
Mike I didn't say they were insufficient just not used and not as versatile in my situation. I have 3 Rangate cutters that have been collecting dust for the last 4 years and they are soon to go. They were impulse buys. I buy my tooling locally now (Royce-Ayr) and don't deal with Rangate any longer. As Mac mentioned Greg at Rangate comes from a long line of tooling people namely Royce/Ayr, he also worked for Laguna before starting his own operation. I run a 2011 F700Z shaper and the extra 30mm spindle was cheap at around 350.00. Having 3 spindles allows extreme versatility. This is what I do everyday and being a small one man operation I have to maximize my dollar and get rid of stuff that has no use and replace it with tooling that makes sense. When you start out with a shaper the options can be overwhelming and there is no one best solution for everybody. The decisions should be based on your needs not on what someone else uses. An example is a lot of people use Rangate for their European Window/door cutters/experience which in my world are of no use what so ever. You might try asking about specific tasks you want to accomplish and get tooling suggestions from there. There is a lot tooling that is easy to aquire and won't break your bank account. Re: KF 700 SP options
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýMichael ,? You can't go wrong working with Greg at Rangate.? He has fine tools and comes from a longline of tooling people.? If it was me I would purchase minimum of 40 mm bore and sleeve to spindle size, this gives you many more options with your cutters for more applications. Re: KF 700 SP options
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýJohn, Yup hurt-ounce $$ than rotate cutters. I have both the dado sets my massive trunnion moves laterally 5" and I have phenolic insert plates. Also equipped with 5 position turret for repeat positioning which all comes in handy ?for al sorts of things. I have another set that is around 160 that is part of my american style interior exterior door cutter set . Cabinet doors and entrance doors use the same diameter grooves. 18 mm to 56 mm profile sizes change at 1.33. Slot or dowel designs. The door system I purchased from Italian co Leiser back in the early 80's. Re: KF 700 SP options
John, I'm currently looking at Rangate tooling in the Craftsman package to get my soon to be delivered first shaper up and running. Maybe you could elaborate on why the adjustable slot cutters are insufficient?? I have the Felder dado as well but have a 1.25 spindle so to use a dado in the shaper I would have to get a new spindle. Thanks! Michael Tagge? |
Re: KF 700 SP options
Your right Mac 228 mm in diameter, I had 8" stuck in my head which is 200 mm. The one thing that hasn't been mentioned is that with insert tooling you have 4 sides of sharp and when there done its just replace the carbide. My personal plan, when I get around to it, is to sell the Hammer dado and a couple of Rangate 160mm adjustable slot cutters that are not used (only work on the shaper) then get the Felder 228mm which will serve both. Between the Freud dado set and Felder I can cover a lot of bases. In the meantime I have access to a Felder Dado when needed. On Wed, Jan 17, 2018 at 9:14 AM, mac campshure mac512002@... But what matters more to me is the way conversations are delivered. If I have to go to a website and carefully scan every new topic that's been posted to extract the parts that are worthwhile, that's a poor use of time. Eventually I'm going to be unwilling or unable to spend that time. That issue is precisely why I look at the Festool Owners Group (among others) only every week or two, but I keep up with the Felder Owners Group every day. The big advantage of email delivery is that email software is highly optimized for dealing with hundreds of messages a day, sorting them out into what's important and what's irrelevant, and even saving (locally) the stuff that's crucial for future reference. The Web forum software that I've seen is far slower and more cumbersome. Those of you who've been around for a while may remember the heyday of Usenet newsgroups. Software like trn ("threaded read-news") allowed me to sift through thousands of postings every day, displaying the threads I wanted to follow automatically while deep-sixing the rest (without preventing me from going back to search for them and look at them in the future if I changed my mind). All with a user interface that was concise and INSTANTLY responsive, because you never had to wait for a message to be delivered. If such a thing exists for web forums, I'd use it enthusiastically, but I just haven't seen it. In the meantime, email delivery with a website fallback is the next-best option. Those of you who use tiny screens without keyboards as your only interface to the Internet probably feel differently. For you I can only recommend voice-controlled AI. :-) Allen |

I have over head guard on my KF700sp. The splitter I have does not have hole. It is 2.8mm, see attached picture. James

Actually, I can't figure out how to create admin accounts in advance.? ?I can grant admin to any user, so if you want to see and tinker with the several hundred available admin dials (!), create an account by visiting the site and let me know you want admin and I will make you admin.

Sample FOG on discourse.org platform
I was curious about discourse.org, so I set one up, which took all of 5 minutes: Currently, it's configured to allow self-registration without admin approval.? I am going to create admin accounts for a few obvious folks here. You'll get an email from discourse.? Ignore it if you don't want that.? Those admins can create other admins and/or do anything else. Just to be perfectly clear, I only set up demo for benefit of interested folks here.? I am not actually starting an alternative site. I am not endorsing discourse.org. I am not suggesting I would want an admin role in a future site.? ?I will kill this discourse site in 13 days when the free trial ends (unless some quorum here suggested otherwise and someone wants to take control of it) |
