Re: WB Sanding Belts
I have a Powermatic 1632 WBS. ?I use belts from Mirka and I am very happy with the quality and life of the belts. ?Your local Mirka source is Barbo Machinery out on Airport Way east of PDX. ?When I was at their location picking up some parts, they told me they are a Mirka supplier for my future needs. ? ?I am a relative recent move to Oregon. ?Before I moved, I purchased quite a few belts from my old supplier as I did not know about Barbo then. ?They had to place the order with Mirka and there was some lead time for the fabrication and shipment. ?It was nothing like waiting for items from Felder that have to be shipped from Austria. ?At the time I purchased my belts, the cost was competitive with other sources.

Re: WB Sanding Belts
I¡¯ve been getting mine from Maverick as well and have been satisfied. Over the last couple years I¡¯ve noticed more online ordering options for sanding belts and I¡¯ve used several taking advantage of their discount codes. The belts have always been fine; it¡¯s a commodity product.
For my edge sander I experimented with a metal sanding grade belt instead of wood- it¡¯s a bit coarser but does last longer. Lloyd |

Re: WB Sanding Belts
I don't have a wide belt but do use Uneeda for custom belts for my Kundig Uniq edge sander.? Before my first purchase the Uneeda sales rep (Tom Espisito) provided suggestions of paper types based on my needs and had a few belts fabricated and sent to me to try out for free.? I have been quite happy with the performance and life (have never broken one of their belts) so I have stuck with them ever since.

Re: WB Sanding Belts
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI have been getting my 17x54 belts from 2sand. They have been quality.? Recently found a better price at Maverick Abrasives. Their belts appear to be fine. Thanks for the inquiry so we can all benefit from choices.

Re: SCM FS 41ES/52ES
It took a bit more than 6 months, But my L¡¯invincibile FS7 is finally here.
?
After speaking with Sam about delivery with both agreed it will be best if I¡¯ll do a local pick up from
SCM. I picked it up earlier from SCM warehouse (and finally got some free swags from SCM :). It is a big and heavy machine (1216Kg)
Towing it for 300 miles was stress fee.
Getting the pallet of the trailer was PITA. Even after lifting the pallet with a pallet jack half of the crate was on the trailer and refused to move. Eventually I bolted eye bolts to the edge of the pallet on each side and used straps to pull it cm by cm until the pallet was off the trailer. From there building a wooden ramp was easy to offload the machine to the ground (and a regular pallet jack can used, as opposed to Felder equipment where you need the narrow pallet jack)
?
First impression of the machine - It is above my expectation, the fit and finish of this machine is top notch. The jointer beds are mirror finish and sliding wood on them is way easier compared standard cast iron with the milling machine marks.
?
?I tried to joint/plan some white oak boards with the default HSS Tersa knifes that came with the
machine. The finish is way better than what the spiral cutter head of my Hammer A3 gave me.
It also has plenty of power. I tried to planning down 5mm (12¡± wide board) and it didn¡¯t even care or showed any signs of being under load.
?
The ready 3 system is really nice and so much better than the hand wheel of the Hammer.
?
The pneumatic hinges that raise the jointer bed works like charm. It is effortless to lift them. The motorized planer bed is a bit slow.
What I really liked is the short changeover. No more need to flit the dust port and hose from
side to side. It literally takes 5-6 sec to change from one setting to another compared to a minute that it took me with the Hammer machine. |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI¡¯m in need of some new sanding belts for my WB, and would appreciate current thinking on where to order best quality online for a custom belt lengths. ?Suggestions appreciated. ?David Best DBestWorkshop@... https://www.flickr.com/photos/davidpbest/collections/ https://www.youtube.com/@David_Best |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý
I'd check if it is made in China as some Butferings were.? I believe those had issues but I've no real knowledge of specifics.? Dave

Are these WBSs still being made?? I found a 2014 on FB for $10K which seems like a good deal.? When I go look at it is there anything in particular I should look for to assess it's condition?? It is still in use and the owner is upgrading to a 3-head machine.
Thanks

My torsion box skins are typically 1/4" MDF. You have to be careful with your cell spacing as you can scallop it with too much space between ribs. Jason Holtz J. Re: Tooling sleeves
Jared, that should work. I was thinking of a single top hat bushing because that¡¯s how I run a Garniga square edge sticking cutter set I used on the Crafter. Because the groover is adjustable from cabinet doors to house doors I have it on a bushing with a hollowed out top cap that tightens the whole assembly on the shaft regardless of how many spacers I¡¯m using on the groover.
Seems like Omas should have a sleeve for that cutter set. Did you talk to the US dealer? |
Re: Tooling sleeves
Joe, thanks for the info on the through bolt sleeve. I hadn't seen those ans was wondering what they centered on with the bolts in the way. I never considered the heads were bored for the bolts. I think for a top hat bushing it would need to 2 peice and ideally one long enough to go through all three plates with a short one on the bottom just to keep everything together. If I'm going to machine it (and it looks like I'm going to have to) I might as just machine a threaded sleeve and top nut and let it sit as an assembly.?? Mac, I've done business with Oella before but I don't see anything on his website with the dimensions I'm looking for.? Probably have spacers between the cutters? |
Re: Veneering hollow core doors
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThanks Jason I¡¯ll definitely give that a try. ?I called the owner of the press company and he was surprised the first run of doors was successful, said they don¡¯t recommend doing any hollow core doors. How thick are the skins on your torsion boxes your veneering to?? ?Just for laughs? ? ??
