CF731 thicknsser belt issue

Hi

my CF731 thicknesser stopped feeding stock this morning. I'm assuming its a drive belt issue. If I could only find my Survival Guide I'd seek help in it but I've searched high and low and there is no sign of it. ISTR it is available in PDF format on line . Is this correct ? If I had it would it help me with this issue?

Are there any videos on changing the belt available ? I've had a search under different search terms but nothing came up.

Is it a tedious job? I had a bad fall 3 months back and neither of my hands are back to full function yet but if someone could point me in the general direction I'd call in a service engineer. There are no Felder savvy engineers in this neck of the wood so if I knew what was involved I could perhaps talk a general wood working machinery mechanic through it before he started dismantling everything.

Many thanks for any help,offered

Re: Baltic Birch ply

I hope I don't need any baltic any time soon. $198! Wow. That's about what the Europly was a sheet with a 10 sheet minimum. Their core was imported too so it'll be going up as well.

David,

If someone was going to build your proposed manual clamp, what would be an appropriate thickness for an HDPE plinth block?

Thx,

Wade

?Wade & John,

I posted earlier that there are no commercially available T-nuts that fit the Felder X-Roll sliding table slots. ?You can make your own from a variety of materials and components, or ask one of the people here who are equipped with mills, to make one for your if you want one make of metal. ?I disagree with a previous post that steel is inappropriate for this application - if the T-nut is machined correctly, steel or stainless or brass or bronze, or titanium are all fine and don’t have to destroy your sliding table T-slot. ?If you need a metal t-nut or two, DM me - I make custom stuff like that all the time for FOG members.

I also posted a link to a drawing earlier showing the dimension of the Felder supplied T-nuts, so if you want to make your own, you know what fits. ???

Yes, you can make them out of flat material if you don’t need them locked down with precise registration - like on the short crosscut fence application. ?Lots of people here have made them out of hardwood or plywood with a steel conventional T-nut such as the ones below inserted into the wood base. ?Others have made similar units using a plastic like HDPE (cutting board material) or Delrin. ?It all depends on the application and what you’re trying to secure to the slider.

<screenshot_5474.jpg><screenshot_5475.jpg>

Also, lots of people have adapted various hand-actuated clamps to the sliding table including the Bessey and Kreg auto-adjusting clamps.

You might also want to acquaint yourself with this if you’re considering a short crosscut fence and it’s locked-down T-nut.

The price on the Felder store is for one nut. I've spent a good amount of time trying to find and off-the-shelf nut from McMaster and Grainger, and ordered a couple I thought might work. I've been unsuccessful so far. Most tee (off-the-shelf) nuts are designed for use in cast iron (it seems).

I wonder if I missed getting necessary accessories, like clamps and a ripping shoe, when I ordered my saw. I’ll chalk that up to not knowing much about the saw when I bought it.

I see that the Felder store is out of tee-nuts for the slider groove. They want $35, but it is not clear whether that is one nut or a handful. Any other sources for this sort of thing?

What are the dimensions of the tee-nuts? There is a wide variety of tee-nuts available through Grainger and Other industrial supply places, or I could have someone make a few for me, but I would have to know what dimensions to look for.

Thanks for any guidance!

Re: Baltic Birch ply

I’ve been working with a large order of Columbia’s Europly plus (birch core) which in my case has walnut veneer (prefinished).? I paid $300 sheet last summer.? It’s a very good product (although pretty thin surface veneer).? I suspect it’d be significantly more to order today but I think it’s a great option for this style of sheet good.? I’m not sure how available the brand is outside of the NW.

Re: Efficient Method to Wrap Plywood with Solid Wood

Block planes are closely scrutinized in the bamboo fly rod making community.? The Lee Valley above is popular, but the Lie-Nielsen 60-1/2 is king.? I no longer hand plane strips, but have a 60-1/2 from my early days.? I still use it for clean-up on bamboo strips.? Looks like it ony comes with the A2 blade which is what I like anywy.

I sort f feel guilty using it for general woodworking, but is just sooooo nice.

Recent prices here in the Denver area:? $55 1/4" 5x5? ?$175 3/4" 5x5 for baltic

Albert,

You inspired me from an email exchange a while ago.? I have already emailed Carl to see if it is a running change or not and If I can get it with the new touchscreen.

I am also in no hurry, I hope it isn't too late in the cycle though.

Fingers crossed.

Re: Baltic Birch ply

$300 for a single sheet is amazing! I cannot imagine paying that.

Of course, I am the parsimonious kind of guy that picks over the cull pile at Home Depot too.

PK. Get in touch with your Felder, you might be able to get it updated, if so, you may have to pay a small fee… being Felder.?

When I ordered my L’Invincibile si X last July it was still with the old control panel. 2-3 months after the order was placed they announced the new control panel. I contacted my SCM agent, got a response the next day, free of charge ( I added other accessories) to have it upgraded but just have to wait extra 2-3 months due to COVID delays.?

Here’s a link to the pamphlet/ply sample video I sent in a previous message. They compare hardness and density to Baltic birch and there’s a lot going for this product. Excited to try it out!
