It looks like you're using a 30mm spindle so I can't help with specific part numbers, but I'm using the following on my KF700 and have found it to work very well:

This is the largest rub collar (mounts on the above bearing) that Amana offers at 160mm, there are many other smaller collars available in 5mm increments from 75mm to 160mm:??

You can probable find a 30mm to 1-1/4" spacer to allow the above on your 30mm spindle.?

Alternatively, there are fixed collars, like this one from Felder (mounts on the Euro curve hood:??

This is a more elegant setup from Aigner, not sure if it would fit your Hammer, probably worth discussing with your salesperson:

Re: A DIY machinery transport experience

Jacques, it's the middle of summer where we are in the Sierra Nevada and northern California.? This year has been especially dry and hot, so we had good sunny weather.? We checked the weather report before each trip.? We had some drizzle on the last trip to transport the sliding table, but wasn't enough to tarp the cargo.? As far as water intrusion protection, we had water-resistance tarps in the car/truck ready just in case.? In my experience, if you plan to tarp your cargo, it is preferred to have tarp with grommets.? I have yet to find a consumer-grade tarp that has enough grommets, so I add more to the tarp.? Grommet tool is available at your local craft store or Amazon.? The other necessities are rope and rubber bungee cords of various lengths to secure the tarp or it will sail away.??If I cannot secure the tarp with rope/bungee cords, then I wrap the tarp-ed machine with plastic stretch wrap and duct tape before strapping to trailer/pallet.??

While most of us worry about water damage, I realized during this move that road dust and debris are just as problematic.? Road construction, aggressive drivers, etc. kick up all sort of debris that can enter machines and potentially cause damage if not cleaned out.? For a few machines, I covered strategic area with cardboard and duct tape or whatever creative solution I can MacGyver using scraps around the shop.? After unloading, I vacuum whatever dust/debris I can find immediately (if not, I will surely forget).? We also timed our travel during non-peak hours.??

Fred, new shop 1600 sq ft.? Supersurfacer bought used from another woodworker.??

In this video,?? he uses a guide ring (I think)…..…about 2 min 13 secs in ……. and a template for moulding as much as possible the outside of the spiral volute.

I'd like to do the same but have no experience of guide rings or ring fences. ?My block is this one (together with cutter)

But I can't find a guide ring large enough (I reckon it needs to be 160mm diameter). ?

Any advice/suggestions very welcome.

Re: A snipe I can’t kill…

3 solid answers to try this morning, thank you.

Reading the first - it seems reasonable and while the fences are well aligned, I think I need to kick the back fence out OR move the whole fence back a bit, as I tweaked the location a bit to remove more and didn’t think through fence alignment in that regard.

Thanks for the video on the back fence, I suspect if I can’t easily remedy this with a fence move amd more bias in the PF that’s the direction I’ll try.

I will tweak the angle and create a little more “fence pressure” from the PF and see if that helps.

Imran - they are in fact the shady little feather boards from rockler - I’ve not used them for this setup before and tried that after re-looking in the survival guide last night. ?The clamps hold them quite nicely and while they don’t move, the flex in the fingers could still give enough to allow this. ?I suspect I’ll back-fence before I make a longer feather board.

Thank you for the feedback, I’ll keep you posted as I’ll be back at it this morning :-)

Thanks,
Brian

?Brian,

Interesting. I do not have this cutter but often used to get a shallower cut at the end of a long board (8’ and longer). I do not recall experiencing the tail end getting pulled in.

Since investing in Aigner pressure modules (usually 4 wheeler on the outfeed fence) this has been reduced but on occasion I can still get a kick out once in a while on long boards.

Shawn has brought up outfeed fence not being in line with infeed. If that is not the source of your problem then, IMHO, the feather boards appear to be the weak link in your setup.?The way they are held by the clamp pad (which is threaded), I wonder if they can rotate under pressure allowing the part to be pulled in.?Have you tried to rotate the feather board by hand to see if they rotate under pressure or stays put? Also, they are fairly short. They look like ones I have from Rockler.

Have you tried increasing the PF speed? Assuming you are not at the top end of feed rate. Just a hunch.

Another thought would be a long continuous featherboard (make it out of a wood scrap) that is held by the two clamps. If needed it can be relieved by the cutter head. For narrow stock, you can also hold a straight piece of wood with your clamps to use as a back fence.
