This topic has a long history indicated by the many search results. ?I have read many of the posts and gathered some great ideas. ?Unfortunately, I didn't save the info when browsing previously and of course now I can't find it again. ?

To my question.... I remember seeing in the past that some members here (I believe at least David Kumm) runs two compressors, a large 60-80 gallon style with a smaller pancake style all sharing the same shop air distribution. I was not able to find this thread again for details of how this is practically achieved. ??

Can someone direct me to this conversation or remind me how this process is achieved? ?I am pretty simple so please take it easy on me. ?Attached is basic sketch. ?Is this even close to accurate?

My compressor will be located in an exterior shed which will be sound-reduced with venting. ? I live close to the ocean in Maine so humidity for the shed will be a concern. ?Would I want to put an air dryer inline of both compressors? ??

thanks to all,?

Re: Laguna LT16 SEC Bandsaw Question

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Thanks Jason. I do know someone and will check.

I researched and it showed that you can get the markings by running the woodmizer on top of a smooth board but backwards. I tried that on my bandsaw but it may work on a smooth board it did not add anything to existing bandsaw cut texture.

Some bend one of more teeth on a tables saw blade to get the circular sawn look which is good to know but not what I was after.

Here is the base we put to yesterday with dominos. Nothing special other that working with rough sawn pieces with less than ideal 90 deg corners. I measured each corner and forced the fence down or leave it in air on far end depending upon over or under 90 corner. It assembled just fine. You can see the two inside sides of the legs are smoother (my bandsaw) cse the bandsaw mill marks (much preferred)

dunno know nuthing? 'bout the Laguna specifically.

A start Cap? is out of the loop when the motor is? running.? You engaged
it while holding the switch? in the start position then disengaged it
when the saw was up to speed by releasing the switch

so stalling the engine should not be? the cause of a start cap blowing

A 16" saw is most probably? not capable of? properly tensioning a 1" blade.

Saw has a single phase 2.5hp motor and I have to hold the switch all the way (start position) until it is running and then let go. Switch is spring loaded and it returns to run position. So as I understand it, there is no centrifugal switch because I control the inclusion of the start cap in the circuit by holding the switch in start position.

Just wanted to confirm whether my stalling the saw had anything to do with the start cap blowing.

Another question. Before I started, I replaced the 1/4¡± blade with 1¡± blade and noticed that the top wheel was wobbly. This is as I was placing the 1¡± blade so no tension. I have not noticed this before and there was no tracking issue. Hindsight, I did not check for side to side wobble but there was wobble vertically, i.e., top and bottom of the wheel moved in/out in the same axis as wood is ripped. Is this normal and I just have not noticed it. It would not surprise me that I have seen this before and just don¡¯t remember it.

I am not sure if all of what happened today is somehow connected. Looking for wisdom from the collective.

Thanks for the original post and I'm glad your friend is on the mend.

I've had some close calls messing with vertical runs of snap lock dust pipe.? By design one is reaching out because of the ladder clearance.? My drops are mostly 8 inches,? so they can get rather heavy.?

Got back to finishing the project for my neighbor. Smelled burned wood right away on test cut with cypress. I could easily see the part where blade was cutting was black. Not sure if bandsaw ever burns wood on the sides of pieces being cut.

Put a new blade on and I am back to how I remember this saw cuts ?

Do you sharpen basic steel blades? Mine is 132¡± and a new is $25-$50 so does not seem worth sharpening.

BTW, does anyone know if it is possible to get sawmill like markings on a smaller saw? Mine produced much smoother cut and the lines are much closer together.

The upper wheel should be loose, ect.?? Its how blade tracking is accomplished.

Re-sawing on these types of saws is not a speedy endeavor like cutting plywood on a tablesaw.?? Adjust you expectations somewhat.

1" is a pretty wide blade for that saw, you'd greatly benefit from 3/4" blade.?? The xtra 1/4" isn't bringing anything to your party - especially if you're looking for 'roughsawn'? look

I do not recall sawing hard wood this big. It works well in soft woods. I had a mask on due to my neighbor being there so I did not smell it but later when I went back there was strong smell of burnt wood but the saw did not leave any burn marks on the material.

Too many odd things happened yesterday. I have not used the saw in almost 2 yrs. I will try a new blade next time.

I mostly want to confirm what I noted about the top wheel. Is it suppose to be wobbly or rigid as in pulley on a shaft.

I am definitely still learning best practices in thick stock, but my experience leans toward your saw not having enough power in that motor. I upgraded to a stronger bandsaw because my 14bx really labored with 6"+ stock whether it was the load of the wood or overcoming the bind in blade flexing under stressful cuts. The new bandsaw is much better but still noteworthy how much slower stock has to be fed when it gets thicker, those gullets are dragging a lot of sawdust until they are free again. Next time try spraying some lube while cutting and see if it's the blade binding or the cutting load. RIP capacitor, too many of them being replaced and discussed recently...

30 mm Shaper spindle for sale

Pictures to follow, but this is an extra spindle that came off a pre 2007 CF741 machine, is 30mm bore and appears to be very clean, runs true. I bought the machine used from a Felder dealer who had this as his personal machine, and it was maintained flawlessly. I am asking $200, not including the shipping, or local pickup in Southern California. Please message me should you have any interest

Hi there Ed,

Apologies for the slow reply, I'm not very online and have never used these groups chat thing before.?

The castors have worked out really well actually, I used 6 because like you, I was concerned about breaking the machines back by only using 4.?

I'm just setting up a home workshop having done a recent remodel, the space is tight being only a 1 1/2 garage in the city so the only real way to make it work was castors.

The castors are Zambus AC 600s which add about 100mm to the working height of the machine. I'm 6'2" so it's not much of a problem but that 100mm could be prohibitive for some.

Here are a couple of quick pics,?

Re: A note of caution

Thanks Matt. Great information. I look forward to the results of your Bluetooth switch experiments. I currently use a Wii Fi switch but am always searching for where I put it down last.

Not an apple user do I guess I will just have to try and stay upright until Android comes up with an effective fall detect app.

Thanks again

Hi Ariel,

Yes, I drilled about the size hole needed by the probe near the DC. Tied the probe with twist tie so I do not have to hold it. There is no display in probe and results show is blue tooth app. It made it really easy to just open close various gates to take readings.

I will check out what you have but it appears there is a technical threshold with this thermal type speed probes and pretty much 30m/s is what I see.

I have not investigated to find out how the ones able to measure higher work. I know I am not going to spend more than a ~$100 that this probe cost.
