Re: Sliding Table Saw Felder K700 S - Minnesota
开云体育Bill, no offense taken and usually one has to work very hard and long to offend me. just shared my rationale for sharing despite high price and condition. i do not mind offering appropriate price and leave it to the seller to accept or not. 开云体育Cliff, ? I always clean an item if I am selling or giving away. I have wondered why some don’t bother. The only thing I can think of is that the seller may consider it is best to show as is to best access how it was used. Or they may be lazy, LOL. ? Imran ? 开云体育Brian, ? I kindof replied with similar thought. Also, if it is hard to find a machine locally then one may consider a less than ideal machine to save $1K in shipping. Crating is on top of that. I prefer a spring loaded tapping center, Fisher makes a good one: Then you need to clamp the part, drill the hole and while you are still over center, use the spring loaded tapping guid and run your tap. You want to get a two or three flute spiral point gun tap for 1/2-13 thru holes. You don’t have enough HP or arms long enough to roll tap (thread form) in 1/2-13 and then there is the whole issue of minor diameter, which when thread forming has to be spot on, like within .001”, not whatever drill size is close. It wil help a lot if you look at your thread chart and drill the next size up on the minor diameter, with that corse of a thread, at least .010 over size would be no issue. ? Last tip is to use Moly-Dee thread cutting fluid on steel, it stinks, it stains everything green, fingers included, but it will lower your torque requirements by probably close to half. In production we used to mix 510 Drawing oil, picture a thick honey consistency, with Moly-Dee and called it Gorilla Snot. The thick oil made it stick to the tap better and the moly-dee made it cut. I hate to think about how many 3/4-16 threads I cut in 347 Stainless Steel by hand when I was a kid… oh, and the tap handle had arms on it 12”-16" long on each side so you could get the leverage you needed. The tap handle below is a 16” long Starrett…. it’ll cost you unless you can find one used.

Re: Sliding Table Saw Felder K700 S - Minnesota
开云体育Hi Bill, ? I just shared without commentary. I agree that it is a well used machine and likely in more than hobby use. It is however, connected to power and someone interested could go and see it in work to access the condition. Sometimes a well-used machine can still be in good shape if well maintained. I also agree price is high. Maybe in $4-5K be reasonable if in perfect working order. ? For some people with limited budget it is good to find a used machine at lower cost. I was able to get K975 for $4.5K. It looked great in pic but was well used when I saw it in person. However, I cleaned every accessible surface including polishing the plastic side cover. I had to replace over a dozen small parts and make some repairs and ended up with a machine at 50% to 75% of typical price. Attached pic is when I was calibrating slider. ? Imran ? Re: Sliding Table Saw Felder K700 S - Minnesota
开云体育Pretty sure that was just a saw, not a saw/shaper. In that vintage with obvious signs of tons of use/abuse, I’d say more like $3000-$4000. Look around on Craig’s List, Offerup and Facebook Marketplace, locally I have a lot to choose from: for $10,500 asking for $7500 for $3600 and there was an Altendorf F45, but it looks like it must have sold, think it was under $7k, might have been $5k.

Re: Bearing greas

开云体育?that is really? a manufacturer dependent question.? For example
My? 48" Ferris mower wants a nice heavy grease in the bearings but
a Bridgeport milling machine wants a fin spindle oil. So? you gotta find that answer from the manufacturer or the maker
of the machine the bearings are installed in. On 12/13/20 3:15 PM, Howard Metz wrote:

Re: Bearing greas
开云体育
For my open bearing machines that don't run in oil, I use SKF LGHP2.? It isn't the cheapest grease out there but it is high performance, high heat so it can be used for most of my applications.? It is easier for me to use primarily one grease than keep track
of what gets what.? Unless you run 24/7, it is probably more important to not over grease than worry about the type of grease.? Too much or too little carries more danger than type.? Dave

Re: Broken Tap
Most taps have a countersink on the end so that you can use a DP for alignment when hand tapping:
Use thread cutting fluid, not 3-in-1 oil.? It makes a big difference. Spiral taps are more expensive, but require less torque.? ? ? Chamfering the hole will ease starting. Get combo drill/taps: Then you can do it in one step on your drill press.? And if you do drill holes separately, still use the drill/tap in your hand tapper because drill part makes the tap self-aligning and you don't need to fuss with guides or eyeballing a square (obviously only applies to thru holes) ? ? |
