Re: electrical features for sawblade on KF700
well, the pros and cons are obvious, fast, easy and pricey :) It really depends on what you do. If you frequently?need to make the non-thru cut at different height and angle, then it is worth it. Otherwise, forget about it.?? Get DRO on crosscut / rip fence and digital height adjustment for the shaper. That is what I have for my KF700sp, no regrets. Re: 12” Flat Top Box Joint blade
开云体育I haven’t sharpened any, any reputable sharpening shop should be able to handle it. Honestly, they are not expensive, so I tend to use until they don’t cut well enough and then buy a new one.

Re: door building advice
I have built two sets of carriage doors.? The first, for my shop, fits into a standard 9' wide by 8' high garage door opening (the original plan for the building was to hold a car).
Frame of engineered 2x4, pocket screws just to hold it firm during assembly. They are straight! Center of 1.5" EPS, 3/8 ply on the outside and 1/4 on the inside. ? Fasten the ply to the frame within an inch of it's life, glued to the foam, to the frame, and a lot of 4d galvanized box nails.? The idea was to make it a solid monolith.? (I covered the EPS, not just a few beads.)? 3/4" cedar to band the top and sides, to hide the plywood edges.? 1x4 cedar on the outside for looks, to match the trim on the building.? Caulk and paint. 3 heavy stainless steel hinges on each side, with a longer leaf to reach past the trim.? I had to order these.?? A 3.5" screw into the edge of an engineered stud has proven very solid. 2x6 sill plate, beveled to shed water.? A 2x4 center post with 2 1/2" dowels protruding 1/2" from the top, that inset into two holes in the header set in the top.? Angled bottom to match the sill plate, with a recessed bolt that inserts into the sill.? Open the doors, pull the bolt, and a small kick removes the center. Standard door stop molding + weatherstrip + door bottom seal, as in any exterior house door.? Minnesota witers are cold!? The small bump over the sill is IMHO a small price to pay for a tighter seal, when for instance I back the trailer in to load/unload I chose to not have any external handles and latch it from the inside. The door still looks good and swings true after 6 winters. -- Terry Therneau |

Re: door building advice
开云体育Jonathan, ? Absolutely right on the wind part. They make a huge sail. I have pins that I drive in ground on both doors I shared. One panel of the newer door cannot have a pin unless I drill a hole in the concrete floor of the porch. I plan to install a hook on the wall and loop on the door. ? Not sure if your comment on X pattern was based upon my door. I agree with you comment however these door are a stress skin panel and the Xs are merely applied. In fact, when I rebuilt the exterior skin of the left door I made X sit proud of the door but it is not noticeable that the two panels are different unless one is really paying attention. I did this to avoid any potential issues with water intrusion. As you can see in the pic of the right panel, I ran the Xs tight into the corners. This is where the rot started on the left side. ? I do plan a diagonal in compression on the inside on the large doors I plan to build. Since we are discussing this, I was wondering if two diagonal supports (one each for the upper and lower halves) would be just as good as a single one? If I use a single diagonal it is a bit longish board at over 16’. ? Imran ? From: [email protected] On Behalf Of Jonathan Smith

Our standard design door runs on a rail overhead and hooks into place to seal heat in.? We occasionally get request for side hinge or barn door style doors.? These can be dangerous in wind.? They need to have an anchor system when in the open position. Steel side-hinge doors require steel frames.? Lighter aluminum frame doors may be easier to frame and handle and are not difficult to weld or bolt together.? I have a slider on my barn but does not seal.? ? If you go wood, have your diagonals work in compression and abut opposite the hinge positions.? Diagonals that work in extension sag over time because joints and fasteners stretch and come loose over time.? X patterns look cool but only half are working in a cantilever.? |
