Re: Felder Dado blade

I'll be taking one shortly and will post it tonight.? I was thinking of how all this could have been avoided if Felder had just left some sort of instructions with the dado blade?

Ok.. It was the chipper tooth that cleans out between the nibbler tooth.. they were not seated properly..?

David Best and I both agree that Felder really needs to up their game on their technical data with their product and at least give us some form of owners manual or instructions.. Once those chippers were all set correctly, the dado cut perfectly in melamine.? What we did was placed 2 boards of melamine ( you can use any very flat surface but the blade needs to be elevated so the teeth sit flat against the board, then loosen the allen head screws used to set the chipper tooth and make sure it's flat and then re tighten the set screw. It's very hard to see if they are out of alignment just by looking at them, but if you look closely, you can see where the back end of the tooth has hit the groove. That's all it takes because the back of the tooth is exiting the cut, pulling the fibers of the wood outward, causing the chip-out.? Hope this helps anyone having issues with these blades..

Re: Securing machines for transport on open trailer

I used a local outfit called Sundance Transport out of El Dorado (near West Sac) () at a very reasonable cost for moving the K700S and AD941 on palettes. My rate included a piggyback forklift, which was used to unload and move the machines right into my garage. I did research and also considered using Felder's shipping recs but the prices were crazy high (like 3-4x Sundance). I only had to haul it about 120 miles, which I think is pretty close to the mileage from West Sac. to Reno. They used a flatbed hooked into a heavy duty truck (I guess they call this "hotshotting" in the transport business). My contact over there is named Bryan (he's the co-owner).

Ping me privately if you want the rate to compare.?

+1 on saving the transport brackets (they're nicely laser cut and bent, not cheap throwaway hardware). You never know when you'll need to move the machines again :).?

I agree.? ?You wouldn't want to use the 1420 receptacle later if you decide to up your fuse to 30 amps.
Higher capacity wire is great.

Randy,? I have a Forest Dado set that has never been used.? The wax is still on all the teeth.? I had them drilled for my Felder machine before I realized that my older machine is not designed to accept them.?
I can send photos if you are interested.
I haven't checked their value yet, but am thinking of selling the set for around 60% of value plus shipping.
I'm in Santa Fe, NM.

Re: Felder Dado blade

Felder here in 2010 had a complaint from a customer about their dado set not cut Melamine good similar to your picture. They gave me the returned set and asked me to do some testing in different materials. I found that chipout on Melamine was almost impossible to get rid of. I did find that when used on Melamine with a thicker paper like the 200 to 400 series board, chipout was reduced but not perfect. That's one of the reasons I had my Freud set bored and pinned. The negative rake of the teeth almost completely eliminates chipout. Aside from Melamine the set worked good in other materials.

I recently bought the Felder dado set, which we all know is NOT cheap..I? bought it so I could groove a 1/4"? dado slot for backs of cabinets.. Using it for the first time ever, I have to admit the cuts were extremely sub-par. I am taking the dado set down to the Felder office and having their Main rep try the dado set out on one of their machines.. I know that something is not right somewhere. I even tried rotating the carbide cutters to no avail..I was using this on 2 sided white melamine, and it's thought that perhaps the melamine is not of good quality..I will know more after today with the Felder guys.. but here is a picture of how the cut looked when I ran the melamine thru.

Hmm.. well I think for over $600 for a dado blade..it should cut perfectly clean on whatever sheet material you run thru it.. something is off somewhere. My set is brand new,, first time using it?

I had a similar issue with my set, albeit the larger one and one straight plywood. It went from nice and clean to way too much tearout. I found it was the scooping tooth moved a little and was not seated in the bottom and at a slight angle. Fixing that fixed my problem.

Climb cutting is fine as long as you understand what¡¯s going on. The material needs to be clamped and mechanically moved . Otherwise the material is going for a ride and ?Possibly ?you to.
