Randy,? I have a Forest Dado set that has never been used.? The wax is still on all the teeth.? I had them drilled for my Felder machine before I realized that my older machine is not designed to accept them.?
I can send photos if you are interested.
I haven't checked their value yet, but am thinking of selling the set for around 60% of value plus shipping.

Re: Felder Dado blade

Felder here in 2010 had a complaint from a customer about their dado set not cut Melamine good similar to your picture. They gave me the returned set and asked me to do some testing in different materials. I found that chipout on Melamine was almost impossible to get rid of. I did find that when used on Melamine with a thicker paper like the 200 to 400 series board, chipout was reduced but not perfect. That's one of the reasons I had my Freud set bored and pinned. The negative rake of the teeth almost completely eliminates chipout. Aside from Melamine the set worked good in other materials.

Hmm.. well I think for over $600 for a dado blade..it should cut perfectly clean on whatever sheet material you run thru it.. something is off somewhere. My set is brand new,, first time using it?

I had a similar issue with my set, albeit the larger one and one straight plywood. It went from nice and clean to way too much tearout. I found it was the scooping tooth moved a little and was not seated in the bottom and at a slight angle. Fixing that fixed my problem.

Climb cutting is fine as long as you understand what¡¯s going on. The material needs to be clamped and mechanically moved . Otherwise the material is going for a ride and ?Possibly ?you to.

Mac,

The riving knife is great, it's my mistake of forgetting that the rip fence is not parallel to the slider. And then only finding after I posted that big email the elite solution of sticking tape to one end that I must've not been using the right key words in my previous searches. Thanks for everyone jumping in to help, and apparently already answering this problem in the past 2 dozen times!

I have Mac's clamps on my slider I also use his clamps on my work bench.? I have inset lengths of Unistrut into the top. Mac supplied the t nuts.? Works a treat.

Is your riving knife interfering?
Do you have your rip fence on its side thin down.
Is the rip blade end at end of riving knife.

?Okay, I was pretty impressed when my machine arrived, I assembled it, and everything was pretty great and required little adjustment. But getting a few months into it and the learning curve, I was just ripping some 2600mm long) mahogany into 15mm-wide trim strips and had the strange result of finding about 4mm of taper - the offcuts getting thinner as the board went through, and the error kept accumulating until I had a wedge left of a board. I'm pretty sure I'm smarter than this, what am I missing, or can you confirm the cause?

Method:
1. Set the rip fence for 15.0mm, align the straight edge of the board to the rip fence\
2. Felder factory air clamps on the infeed and outfeed ends of the board engaged
3. Run through saw, finding a slight feeling of tightness/binding about halfway through the stroke(like grain direction shifting in the board or a knot), then back to normal after a foot or so to the end.
4. Inspect offcut, it's 15mm when the cut started, and about 11mm when the cut ended. 4mm over 2600mm length = 0.00154 taper ratio.

Next try:
1. Remove rip fence from the system
2. Align board to sliding table with digital instruments since my parallel guide is still on a boat to America.
3. Cutting is the same feeling, maybe a tight spot in the wood
4. Verify the final position of the cut of the board on the slider is still nearly the same as it started.

Machine check:
1. Setup dial indicator on slider, alignment is nearly perfect both vertical stroke and along saw plane. The error is as much as normal deflection loads applied at any point, less than 0.1mm.
2. Check blade-to-slider toe-out - about 0.002"/ 0.05mm
2. Check blade-to-rip fence toe-out - about 0.002"/ 0.05mm
3. LIGHT BULB - The rip fence isn't parallel to the slider - it's angled.?
4. Do MATH >> rip fence toe-out is 0.05mm of alignment error over about 315mm of blade diameter measured = 0.00159 taper factor. That is awfully close to the taper ratio above on the long board cut.

Conclusion:
1. I can't use rip fence to align boards for long cuts anymore and expect parallelism.
2. I need to find a solution to this problem for future ease of use and repeatability.
3. I need to search FOG for help, but when I can't find it, post for other experts to help.
