David, This quote: "You can't overpay for the right machine.? Woodworking machines are selling higher but manual metalworking don't seem to follow.? I suspect the hobby crowd doesn't go in for metalworking as much as wood.? Dave

Great article.? Lots of interesting articles on game theory and how to bid too.? The last one I read suggested not putting in your max bid as that site shows if it was a proxy increase or a bid. ??That sander is a 2004 build.? New it’s $29K.? I decided I’d rather buy used at up to $10K over a new but lesser machine.? I had been assuming I’d come across a Kundig Uniq and without the belt feed it’s a lot cheaper than the Unique S.? But this one showed up and amazingly my max was the winning number. It should get here for right at my max with tax. ? Sadly for me, the used machine market is super strong right now.? In 2010 when I had a much smaller space the deals were amazing.? I may wait on a wide belt sander until the building/remodeling boom ends. ?

Re: Laser Kerf Line for slider saw?
开云体育FWIW, just got an email from CPO listing Bosch refurbished cross hair red laser for $49. i looked up the power spec and it is <1.5mW. i looked up a dewalt and it listed similar power. so i am pretty sure all of these pen type lasers on ebay with listed power of 50mW, 100mW or 200mW is incorrect specification. maybe it is the power supply power as opposed to laser power consumption. imran On Nov 30, 2020, at 12:34 PM, imranindiana via groups.io <imranindiana@...> wrote:
? Brett, ? Thanks for the boom pic. I could not connect text to the previous pic. BTW, you found the same orientation best as I did. Locating laser on the saw guard made it faint 10ft away and really bright near blade. I ended up mounting midway along the length of slider on the wall. I do not see any power rating of laser on amazon, does the unit list wattage? From my experience, keep it within reach so it is easy to align and all should be fine. ? Imran ? 开云体育i assume you comment is in jest. we have had few threads about milling machines here. few of us, not me, own them and some would like to, so the reason for sharing. FWIW, it sold for $3450 ($3967 with buyers premium). perhaps, milling a part to fix a tool used for cabinet door building is how it can actually help build a cabinet door. personally, i like items that incorporate metal with wood but i do not have metal working knowledge beyond basics. imran On Dec 2, 2020, at 9:53 AM, tomruth@... wrote:

Re: Screws
think the first q is what is the load carried by each screw. load can be shear or tension, or a combination of those. tension capacity of wood screw is typically based on length of thread engaged in the supporting member, typically x lbs per inch of thread. shear capacity can be limited by the screw or the substrate, eg.,? ?soft woods?= lower shear? , steel plates = higher. Once the shear and tension capacity for the screw?and the materials is defined, then if more than one fastener is required, a group is necessary.? then minimum spacing requirements?come into play,?and in case of bending moments, the load in fasteners farthest from the center of bending is highest..?? like so many things, not simple another solution?is to mock up and test. Re: Screws
开云体育i thought i had read that the length of screw into the material that you are fixing the object to, should be at min 1.5x of the object (being fixed) thickness. so if you are securing 3/4” thick material to something then 1 1/8” of the screw should be in that substrate. the total length then would depend on whether the screw is flush or recessed in the 3/4” material. i hope i am remembering this correctly. wish i could find the source. obviously just a basic rule with many caveats. imran On Dec 1, 2020, at 12:24 PM, Bill James via groups.io <xxrb2010@...> wrote:

Re: Langzauner LZK-3-NCV Edge Sander - new to me
开云体育I was looking for either.? This particular one has the feed built in but you can only work on one side.? The Kundig Uniq is two sided.? One side set for calibrated sanding, even sanding lacquer between coats.? The other side is like a regular edge sander.? If it was a Kundig I would have paid the same. ? I "won" today at auction an edge sander that I've been looking for at auction for a couple of years.? Apparently the Euro veneer sanders are scarce in the US.? This was has the feed belt built in with a top mounted pressure bar.? This machine was built
for 230V/460V but it's wired for 460V so I will need to get that sorted.? And I will need to again order more Nordfab pipe.? Now the fingers crossed wait to make sure it arrives safely.
