Re: Shaker Style Cabinet Door

The freus website is awful.?

These are the profiles included in the rp2000 kit. It's really only 5 profiles with and without the back cutter used. For a bit over $300 including all the optional profiles it's a very inexpensive option.?

Thank Jared. Surprisingly Freud website does not show any of the 10 profiles and I cannot find them anywhere else either.

I settled on the innovator head because I can pretty much get any profile up to 2 3/4¡± long.

I can easily see the finer details on the sets from the likes of Rangate and Whitehill but boy they are expensive. In time I may splurge but at the moment will have to make do.

If you dont have a carbide rp head, The freud rp2000 head is cheap enough to keep around just because. While not ideal due to the small diameter (under 6") compared to larger heads it offers a lot of profile options and works well in mdf. The carbide is sharp and fine grained enough to leave a good finish is solid wood as well.?

Imran,

You need carbide knives to profile MDF panels,?HDF is even harder than MDF. MDF?is good enough for the door panel.

MDF/HDF will null the HSS knives very quickly. Years ago, I used a block plane to chamfer the HDF flooring board edge (I routed the groove on one side, so I can join the flooring boards along the door opening). The plane knife was dull after chamfering a total 6 feet flooring board.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Yes flat on the outside and a raised panel for the interior is what I was after. I take it, reverse raised panel is the proper term, thanks Jared.

Our kitchen has the basic raised panel on the interior.

This is for the cabinets that flank the murphy bed. I asked in case someone has done something unusual which may be interesting to build.

Paint is an option and I had not considered MDF. Tempting as it is a lot less work. I have used MDF but have not profiled it. Understand that it is messy and bad for the tooling. The head I have uses HSS knives.

Keep them coming ?

Well my next project is using Shaker style cabinet door. I would like to find out what raised panel profile you think looks good on the interior.

I imagine, the raised panel profile may go hand in hand with a rail and stile profile as well but I am okay no profile on the rail and stile. Which means, I would just be milling a tenon on rails.

There are way too many options out there so something from experience is very helpful.

I would close by saying that I am omitting, a flat plywood panel, as an option. I think it would make the door light and lend to a low quality feel. Please correct me if I¡¯m wrong in thinking so.
