Hi Bryce,?

Totally understand that lock miter is fussy but I came up with a formula and come really close to the sweet spot. Still requires adjustment in single digit thousands of an inch but need to test it some more.

Good luck with the surgery. I have gone thru labrum repair on the hip. PT and recovery was similar to a hip replacement. Fun fact, most hip joints are made in Indiana, about 1 hr north of me. Make sure you pick a good one.

Thanks all.
Very encouraging words from you all!
Jonathon, I'm actually in Canada eh! :) To your point though, yes in Australia radiata pine is more abundant as it is grown there and NZ. Douglas fir is coloqually known as Oregan. It was originally brought to Australia in the form of packing crates! All sorts of stuff would get shipped in boxes and crates made of this lovely timber. Pretty crazy huh! Of course it didn't take long before we found it good for more than just crates, and started importing it as a building lumber. We used it lots for things like framing where large dimensions were needed without the weight of our native species. I couldn't tell you how many newel posts and balusters i turned from the stuff, but it was very popular for that too! It's still available in Australia, but not like it used to be, and definitely not at the price it used to be! :)
Imran, nice job on that beam! You really can't have too many clamps huh! :) I love lock mitres, but they are a little fussy if i just have a couple of pieces to do. I could have just been careful and cut the 45 on the slider, but then i wouldn't have had to use the shaper! :) If you can't tell, the shaper is probably my favourite machine! Well that and a 5 head moulder. Ok, maybe a single ended tenoner too, but unfortunately i don't have those in my shop, nor do i have the room! :(
With a hip replacement in the next month or so, and then the other one some time around April, i need to be filming everything i can so i have something to do when i'm laid up and can't work at full speed. Hopefully i can improve on the quality of the content.
Regards,
Bryce
