Re: Phase Perfect Order

First I am no expert, but I would like to clarify that I recommend home runs for each circuit.

As I said earlier, I personally don¡¯t see a compelling reason to do this type of wiring to save a few hundred bucks. If you intend to go this direction, not that I recommend it, at least have a fused branch circuit for your single phase machine. Better yet, talk to an electrician so you can follow your local code. Maybe someone will chime in here who is more familiar with the code.

Someone told me long time ago that if I had a fire in my shop the insurance company can deny a claim if they see improper wiring. I have a detached structure 300¡¯ away from home but if the shop is attached to the house there is absolutely no reason to take any chances.

I would go with something like Imram¡¯s suggestion and run the second circuit from the input size of the PP.?

What you¡¯re proposing is a strange case for NEC (assuming you¡¯re in the US) as people don¡¯t generally have manufacturered 3 phase and then desire to unbalance it.?

I wouldn¡¯t do it. The circuit breaker for PP will be of too large a value to protect the wiring for your single phase branch circuit. A fused branch circuit may be an option but I don¡¯t see a compelling reason to go this route.

There may be other concerns. One would pick the branch circuit from the input side of the PP, so the PP does not need to be powered to run the single phase branch. You will need to check if the connection point has space for 2 sets of wire.

I have couple of question regarding phase perfect installation. (PTE10 if that matters)

I have two machines close to each other.

One is 3-phase and one is 1-phase. I will only run 1 machine at a time.

I thought to save some wires and use 1 leg of the 3 phase to run the single phase convertor. Is it something that is feasible?

If not, does the PP box has enough space to place a power distribution block before the input to the convertor?
