Re: 45 Deg Setup Square

Imran, I can only assume thats why you would want the stop so the fence won¡¯t move to the left lf you bang it too hard I can remember my Scmi in the 90¡¯s was the same way because I changed it there.?

Yes there is a trade off, in the past I never used it for miters, mostly all square cuts in ply. You could make a quick change nose i had some ideas but don¡¯t need to bother anymore with the current fence

Mark,

What you describe would not allow you to move the fence closer to the blade when you pivot it for an angle. Does it work okay for 45 miters with end of fence that far away?

I always thought the reason of it to be that way is to be able to slide closer for angled cuts.

?Wade, that fence has a stop on it that when you pull the fence to the left it stops so it won¡¯t move past it. When i had the same fence, the first thing i did was move the stop to the other side of the pins and then recalibrate the scale so you can pull it away which i do sometimes when ripping a lot of lumber.

The reason it is not this way from the factory is that there is a possibility (not really) that when material is slammed (because that is what it would take to maybe move it) against a stop it will move the fence and you calibration would be lost.

The DRO fence does not have this issue as there is a drop pin that you pull and the fence can move either way, sounds like this is what the tech was thinking.

So it sounds like a person could make pretty decent miters without investing in the precision miter table accessory? ?

Mark,

I expected that as the gradations are so far away. If you can make joints with no gaps then it is good enough for me. Perhaps operator error then.

?Does using the 45 deg marking for the long xcut fence work for you to make perfect 45s, let¡¯s say for a simple frame?

I used my precision 45 deg square for making this frame but it is only 6¡± on the long side. Frame?is fine but not to my standard. Maybe, I should not have sold the frame square saw.

I found 2 options, if a setup square is recommended but there is no accuracy provided.

I know someone is going to suggest miter saw but not everything fits my miter saw.
