My 975 is from 2006. When I got it ~3 yrs ago I completely disassembled the guard because the nylon screw meant to hold it at desired height did not work and was bent. I ordered new nylon screw and it has been holding but the screw is still getting bent. BTW, this is what my guard looks like:

It just occurred to me that perhaps the gas strut has gone bad. Can anyone with similar guard let me know if they can feel any assist from the strut. This may be hard to tell but worth a shot. I may need to buy a scale to measure lifting force but near I can tell, force to lift feels similar to what I feel when it comes down.
