Re: Deep-cutting slot cutter

I don¡¯t know, they were huge though dumped it with the cabinet saw I sold.

I have also read where the freud sets are not that consistent tooth to tooth, Whether it matters or not I do not know, i do know I get a better cut than I ever did with the Amana set.

Could have been this, but not sure?

Don't know what Freud dado your using Mark but they are an alternating top bevel and flat tooth design with no bat ears. Perfectly flat bottom no ears at all. All the chippers are flat tooth.?

On the dado, i went with ridge carbide as they have the lowest ¡°bat ears¡± Freud has the tallest, can¡¯t recall the numbers. Really can¡¯t notice the bat ears once glued up.?

Ridge customer service is great, my first set didn¡¯t seem to give flat bottoms as advertised, I called and he sent me a new set that day. That set was better, he said that the sets are machined/ground as sets and sometimes the workers get the blades mixed from one set to another.?

Tom if you look back a few months you will find this topic was discussed extensively. Anyways one the budget ways to get good slot cutting and dados especially with Felder saw shaper is to get something like the Freud 8" dado cutter with 4 wing chippers and get it rebored with pin?holes. You will have to get a Felder shim set if you want super fine tuning. Forrest also offers a ready to go dado cutter that gives good results. They give a flat bottom with no bat ears common with most shaper tooling.

Thanks guys, you¡¯re the best! I¡¯ll look into the links and products you shared.?

For this project, the customer started the staircase (in the photos), but asked for help completing the upper flight. For this particular project I am borrowing the customer¡¯s JDS Multirouter to produce the grooves with a 2.5¡±, 0.5¡± diameter router bit and I¡¯m generally satisfied with the results. If the Shaper grooving cutters run the risk of leaving tiny grooves in the bottom of he joint, I wonder if I¡¯d be better off getting the mortising table for my A3-41 and getting some slotting cutters?.....? No rush on this particular job, I¡¯m more interested on how to handle things on a future project....?
