You got lucky, usually once they start to gall, you are pretty much done for.

It was probably me not tightening the spindle rings enough and it caused the spindle¡¯s metal to get rough where the cutter was located. The ring was getting stuck there. After getting the ring off I used a demeral with a grinder to smooth the rough spot,
and the rings go on and off. ?I guess I was fortunate the rings didn¡¯t weld themselves to the spindle or cause significant other damage.?
