The cause of the noise in the lower fly wheel cage is due to misalignment of the motor pulley and fly wheel pulley.? I put a 1-inch Lenox Woodmaster C blade on the FB 710 this afternoon, applied tension, turned it on and the noise was present.? Proceeded to de-tension the blade, loosen the 4 bolts holding the motor to the chassis, the belt tension bolt, and the set screws (2) for the motor pulley, moved the motor pulley, re-tighten everything before powering on.? After a few attempts at small incremental movements of the motor pulley and repeating the before mentioned process, the problem is resolved.? The saw now hums along with just the noise of wind from the fly wheel and blade.
But I now notice another phenomenon.? The saw vibrates a lot more than any of my other Felder/Hammer machine and it seems to alternate between period of less vibration to more vibration.? It is low frequency vibration that I can feel placing my hand on the cast iron table and visualized looking at the chassis or blade guard.? I am wondering if this FB 710 is suffering from the same problem as Bill Belanger's FB510?? I attempted to make a video, but without a tripod, my unsteady hand only adds to the vibration.??
I am not sure if this vibration is "normal" and may go away once I run some lumber through it.? My old 14-in Rikon does not exhibit this behavior at all.? Not completely balanced fly wheels???
