SHARERS OF THE DIVINE NATURE
II Peter 1:3-4 AMP ¡°For His divine power has bestowed on us [absolutely] everything necessary for [a dynamic spiritual] life and godliness, through true and personal knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. 4 For by these He has bestowed on us His precious and magnificent promises [of inexpressible value], so that by them you may escape from the immoral freedom that is in the world because of disreputable desire, and become sharers of the divine nature.¡± We understand from the Word of God and from life experience that mankind has a fallen nature because of sin. But this scripture passage tells us that when we believe in the Lord Jesus we receive everything necessary for life and godliness. He frees us from our old sin nature and we become a new creation. Now we share in His nature. What are the qualities which are ours by sharing the divine nature? There is DILIGENCE (persistence), and FAITH (the gift of faith, not the measure, or degree, of faith given to every man), MORAL EXCELLENCE (goodness), KNOWLEDGE (personal knowledge of the Lord, spiritual insight), SELF-CONTROL (ability to control your emotions and behavior), FAITHFULNESS (trust and loyalty to God), GODLINESS (obedience to God¡¯s will), BROTHERLY AFFECTION (natural family affection toward other believers, kinship), CHRISTIAN LOVE (charity, unselfishly seeking the best for others). (I Peter 1:5-7) These qualities correspond to the fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23. I Peter 1:9 ¡°For whoever lacks these qualities is blind¡ªshortsighted [closing his spiritual eyes to the truth], having become oblivious to the fact that he was cleansed from his old sins.¡± We never want to be oblivious to the wonderful work the Lord has done in us. Everyone should be able to see the difference in our lives. We are no longer of the world. We are the Kingdom of God. IN HIM WE LIVE 08-12-2023
