Door hang Wednesday 6
Gentlemen, It looks like Wednesday should be a good day to attempt hanging another door. If we can get 4 able bodies in addition to myself, I believe we can get a door hung and stabilized in three hours. I would like to start around 0930, but could also do it in the early afternoon. Will depend on how many and when folks are available. Please let me know if either of those options work for you. Mark

Hangar door Progress Sat 4-5
Gentlemen, Today we were able to complete the mounting of all the track on the headers. We also got some new LED lights hung and a little bit or weather sealing done on the door that is already hung. Unfortunately, the winds didn't allow us to hang another door. Tomorrow doesn't look any better and since all we have left to do is hang the doors, I'm recommending we stand down. I'll keep everyone in the loop and send out a notice of our next work detail once we get a decent day to hang doors. Thanks to all who showed up today....... Mark

Weekend Schedule for hangar doors 3
Fellow aviators, Progress has been made this week on the doors. We have two openings ready to hang doors. If we have enough able bodies, we should be able to hang one door on Saturday and another on Sunday. There is plenty of other work to be done as well, so if you have just an hour or two, please stop by. All skill levels are needed. There are lots of tasks that can be accomplished with both feet firmly on the ground... such as installing the bottom seal and sweep. Very simple and straightforward. Hope to see you there, Mark

Still chokes me up watching this. I love watching those big radials come to life……and then I see my dad in there. He was a ball turret gunner. Dennis https://youtu.be/1gIDvaxBxZc?si=ZSkSsNe_Ks8sV3oe

First timer. It was great talking to everyone because we were all pilots. Got a demo ride in an Aeroprakt. Lifting off and climbing out reminded me of how special flying is. Dang I’ve missed it. I really liked the bird. May keep an eye open for a used one. Discovered Flight Design are Now being built in Taiwan.

Hangar door progress 3
Gentlemen, Sunday was a BIG day ! We were able to get the first door up and secured. There are a few tweaks we have to make, and weatherstrip to install, But great progress is being made. I would like to carry on during the week preparing a few more openings for door hanging. We need to hang more track and frame out vertical columns for 5 more doors. Please let me know if you can help out anytime this week. I will be there to assist. Mark

April Letter
---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Airfield <airfield8nc9@...> Date: Mon, Mar 31, 2025 at 20:19 Subject: April Letter To: It's nice to see a little rain .. March was awfully dry but behaved the way it should have - in like a lion, out like a lamb. A little green on the runway means we'll be back mowing soon - and we're in need of a 75HP tractor if you know of one available - our old one is ready for less stressful duty.

Doug Elliott in hospital 5
Doug called tonight (Sunday) to say he fell from a ladder and is at Spartanburg Regional. Broken ribs, punctured lung, back injury. He’s in ICU, hurt and hurting. Surgery a couple of days ago and the docs are optimistic. I’m going to see him Tuesday and will keep you posted. Alex

Sat work group
Gentlemen, Today we had a relatively small crew, but we got a lot done. Thanks to all who attended. We are now ready to hang the first door. I'm hoping we will have 3 hours or so of calm winds tomorrow so we can attempt this task. We will need a minimum of 5 or six people... more if the winds pick up. I would like to start at 9:00, so get a good night's sleep. If anyone has a few sand bags, please bring them. We can use them to stabilize the doors as we anchor them in place. Bags of dog food, cat litter, or fertilizer would also work. Another option is 1 foot lengths of rebar that we can put into the existing holes in the concrete. Buckets of water would also work. Put your thinking caps on and show up to help ! I really, really want to get this first door up....... Mark
