Having been mislead into creating what I hope will be an easygoing association of likeminded fun flyers, I guess I have to write something. Something Thank you. Welcome . Let’s go flying together.

ADS-B is done today! 2
Finally .. the ADS-B is done. I'm using the UAT/SkyFX combination. The big holdup was the transponder monitor threshold .. not sure what that means, but it's something that can be adjusted and the default value is 1550. When the first test flights didn't result in a good report, Dick Gagliardi and Steve Murray pointed me toward the "advanced" menu which is locate in a super secret place and had me lower it in increments of 100 .. at 1350, it's good. At last. I might have to do a touch&go at AVL just because I can.

ACS Order
Need to order some AN3-35 bolts from ACS. Anyone else need something to piggyback the order and justify the shipping cost? Gene

AVL expanded Class C airspace 4
At breakfast this morning, I mentioned I'd asked Ricky, the AVL controller, how ADS-B Out was affecting his day-to-day operations. He said previously their aircraft position information was restricted to primary radar echoes and Mode C transmissions, both limited by the mountains at AVL. With the addition of ADS-B ground stations, he said ATC now receives near real time aircraft position information from ADS-B Out-equipped aircraft over a much wider area. With this additional coverage, there had been discussion of expanding the AVL Class C shelf to as much as 20-25 nautical miles from the current 10 nm. I'm not aware of any current Class C airspace shelves that extend more than 10 nm, but there is an FAA proposal to grow the Fort Lauderdale (FLL) Class C shelf to 25 nm (see https://www.faa.gov/news/fact_sheets/news_story.cfm?newsId=23795). Any change would be years away, but I'm not surprised. Brian

Flurries 4
Getting some very light flurries of snow out here .. with just the few clouds around it’s something of a phenomenon. Maybe this is the Great Snow of 2020.

Hats / logo 11
I put in an order for hats and submitted our logo design. I wasn’t sure the company (Queensboro, at Wilmington NC) could replicate the logo in the space available on a hat and sure enough they couldn’t. They came back with the attached and I turned it down. As a compromise, I asked if they could do the Loon and runways with the name of the group across the bottom and that might work. Colors need editing, too. They’re going to revise and send and I will share with you when I get it - likely tomorrow. The hats are cheap - about $7 - and we’ll have a few for newbies. On that score, please feel free to share invites with like minded folk. Instigator Alex

9” Loon decals 3
I have Leo’s decals for his airplane .. it’s just Loon flying solo .. no Fairweather Flyers. - a set is 2 decals facing 2 ways so he can fly into the wind on each side of your airplane. $11/set. The supplier (FastSigns in Asheville) has a minimum charge of $50+tax so nobody is making any side money. The images are on file at FastSigns and can be ordered any time but the minimum applies for each order. Our license is just for our group’s use. It can’t be assigned or sold for use outside our group.

Insurance 6
I got my quote for the CallAir from Gallagher today. Not good. Nearly $2,500 for 60k hull and the usual liability. No accidents/incidents and 500+ hours tailwheel. That’s nuts.

Bill Kemper question
Hi Alex. I went to Sebring and got a demo ride in this AutoGyro MTO Sport and I’m considering getting one. My question to you is do you know anyone at 0A7 that might have hanger space? 6’ wide, 28’ long. Not urgent, just wondering. Thanks, Bill Kemper

Got and AW yesterday 2
FAA issued AW and repairman certificate yesterday. Alex and Mark kept inspector happy with coffee & hot chili. The inspector did look at a bit of detail, found a backward safety wire on my prop, so plane is a bit better as a result of his efforts, so I am grateful. Other than last week's very last minute cancellation, it was a positive experience overall. Thanks to all for the help in getting this far. Steve
