Re: Dave in Western NY
I figured you were hunkered down in all that mess. I'm glad to hear you're ok. I can't imagine what that's like. Almost 80° here in N.O. --

Re: Buck Tag Location
A little late to the game but here goes. Depending on the manufacture it can be called different things. GM has a "Protect-O-Plate/Tag/Buck tag" which IIRC is affixed/part of the firewall (as in one would have to cut it out as well as some of the sheet metal to remove it to "rebody" a car (done for valuable cars and can have bad legal issues involved depending on how & what was done. NOTE there ARE LAWS that can be looked up involving this type of thing and is usually ILLEGAL) in addition to IIRC maybe some important tags affixed to the core support. Our cars '68 to at least '71 (and I think '66 & 67) have the full VIN # also stamped on the Top rail of the inner fender apron (about over the wheel area) and I know on the '68 - '71 can ONLY be seen IF the fenders are removed. AS an FYI they start (and IIRC end) with a 5 point open/outline star. In addition to this there are other HIDDEN VIN # stampings that Law Enforcement know of to help ID stolen cars (this for more modern cars like sometime in the 60s & up. I know on newer Fords like sometime in the 90s & up Ford stuck little white VIN stickers in a lot of places/on body panels of the car. I remember a T-Bird I looked at that had them stuck on metal body panels & parts in the trunk of the car. Also on '68 & up Fords Partial VIN #s were stamped on a cast in/machined "pad" on the Engine Block & Transmission. Depending on which Engine & which Transmission will determine where the Partial VIN is stamped/located & will match the car's VIN. The Partial VIN will contain the 1st two Digits of the VIN & the Whole Consecutive Serial # of the VIN. See attachments for Partial VIN # Locations on FE & C6 (1st attachment) and 289/302 (2nd clearly showing Full Partial VIN & 3rd pic better showing location on Top Back of Block Just behind Intake & Just ahead of the Transmission Bell Housing mounting, NOTE the 3 larger hoses on the bottom Right are from/to the Heater Core on the Firewall to aid in locating the Partial VIN stamping pad) & C4 (4th pic showing closeup of Partial VIN # & 5th pics showing the Raised Boss/Pad Location on Top Main Body of transmission towards the Rear of the body above the Vent Tube Boss in the case. NOTE Bell Housing on Left & Tailshaft Housing on Right. The 2nd through the 5th attachment are pics of the Original #s Matching 302 & C4 from my '68 Fairlane 500 4 Door which is a factory AC car, FULL VIN # 8A34F109090 I at this time DON'T know where the Partial VIN # Locations are for other Engines and Transmissions for our year cars. Hope this helps David from WNY On Saturday, November 26, 2022, 01:56:37 AM EST, Peter Mahaits <astro@...> wrote: Will and others, I've never heard of a, "buck tag", before. Re: Dave in Western NY
Sorry a bit late to the show. We got abt 2 ft (give or take) of heavy wet snow, But the next town over was in a driving ban. I had to get a prescription and drove there. It was bad, but no worse than we have gotten other times and was passable using normal winter driving cautions when needed. They closed ALL the expressways (the 400 Expressway/RT 400 by me was closed till Monday. I was up on the roof removing some of the snow. But as Dave B said, it warmed up and rained quite a bit so most of of the snow was melted & we were down to green grass again. Good to hear Dave was ok too in all that. Thanks for checking. Re: BMS Confirmation
I would love to drive my Cobra on that track.? My first wife, who I am still good friends with, is from Bristol.? I was in Bristol there a couple times and drove by the speedway, but was never inside.?? I have run many tracks during my amateur racing career?with SCCA for 32 years.? I does not look like I will be running BMS though.? It is just too far away.? I would probably be disappointed anyway having to drive at slow speed.? I ran Las Vegas Speedway with the Richard Petty Experience in a slightly detuned? NASCAR race car.? We had to follow instructors to insure we would not crash the cars.? Even though we were going 140 mph, I was a little disappointed.? I did not get that rush of being on the edge in the corners.? ? Gary in SoCal

Re: Buck Tag Location
Ok. That answers it, thanks Dennis. As for my build sheet, if it was in the front seat, it's long gone. The back of the driver's side front seat broke on my parents and my dad had to replace it. I tore out the interior when I got it blasted and never saw it. Will Denver, CO On Nov 26, 2022 10:05 PM, Dennis Bregitzer <dennis.bregitzer@...> wrote:

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! To the best of my knowledge, the 68-69 Fairlanes don't have them. I don't know what year Fords have them, if any. The closest you will see is the door data plate on the driver's door. Sometimes you may find a build sheet tucked into the seat springs or in the dash, but placement is inconsistent and the sheet may not be readable any more. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Chris Scheers, Applied Synergy, Inc. Re: Buck Tag Location
I just googled Shelby I'd tags...those are tags put on by Shelby with their numbers for that car. Those tags are not there when originally being built by Ford. On Sat, Nov 26, 2022, 11:59 PM Dennis Bregitzer via <dennis.bregitzer=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Buck Tag Location
I'm thinking our build sheet is to Ford as the buck tag is to Chrysler. They have a tag very similar to our door tag that has all the options for that car mounted to the top of the left fender. Many of our members have found the build sheets in their cars. On Sat, Nov 26, 2022, 10:13 PM Peter Mahaits <Astro@...> wrote:

Re: Buck Tag Location
I have that tag on my drivers door. I've been watching Dennis Collins on youtube rescuing Shelby's and they all have buck tags under the hood along with Mopar's. Maybe ours don't, was just curious if ours ever had them. I also have a Marti Report on my car, the best money I ever spent! I just wish I could've showed it to my Mother, it was her first new car. I think she would've loved to see it. Will Denver, CO On Nov 26, 2022 6:31 PM, Tony Avak <avakar@...> wrote:

Re: Buck Tag Location
开云体育Will, I think what you call a Buck Tag
is what we usually call the Data Plate or (Ford's name) Warranty
Plate.? On our cars it is located on the driver's door just below
the door latch.? If yours is missing you can have one remade by
Marti Auto Works.? They prefer that you send them a photo of the
old tag but if it is gone you can probably send a photo of your
VIN and they can look up the info on your car from their data
base.? They may charge more for that, though.
