Re: Wheel seals for my ‘68 Fairlane

Chris, as Marty B said, any autoparts store should either have the seals in stock OR should be able to order them in for you. Usually at worst (depending on when you stop in and pay for/order it) the next day delevery to the store. This provided the parts store's warehouse has it in stock.

Your car has the 8" Ford Rearend. I don't think you will, BUT you MIGHT need to measure the bearing/axlenretaining plate bolt spacing to give them size info. I know that one MUST either know or measure this for the 9" Ford Rearend they are getting bearings and seals for.

You MAY want to order 2 of the seals so you can do the other side when it fails (this taking the assumption that BOTH seals are of the same age/mileage and a good chance the other seal is not far behind).

Additionally, document the Make/Brand and Part # of the seal, where it was bought from, when it was bought as well as when/the date you install it and the mileage.

Re: Bumpers

Greg, No problem. I did a quick calculation, now this is bassed on a lot of big IFs. IF you got their 2 yr Gold Club at $79.95 and IF Auto Krafters accepts the 10% Gold Club discount on the '70 Bumpers and IF you got BOTH Front & Rear, you would save a total of $77.99. Which would almost have paid for the 2 yr Gold Club. And your next qualifying order of $100 (OR IF you bought more with/at the same time as the bumpers, like the mounting hardware kit for them) would put you ahead on the savings and more than breaking even on the Gold Club cost.

Either way, IF/When you get the bumpers please let us know what you think of them and how they line up/fit when you get to installing them.

So how is the progress on any of your toys?

I got a early New AMD front bumper for my 68 convertible. When I looked at it, it looked good, and of good guage matching the originals. I have yet to install it so I don't know how the fit is of them. But it does look good.

Don't know anything about the 70 bumpers. Are New ones offered by Auto Krafters being made by AMD? How much are they going for?

Something to think about is IF there is an event that you plan on going to that Auto Krafters is going to be at, you MIGHT be able to save on shipping costs by buying the bumper(s) (and other parts) and having them deliver the bumper(s) (and other parts) to the event/show. Just a thought, as years ago I was able to do that with a new radiator I bought from Auto Krafters and they delivered to Carlisle All Ford Show at no cost. (NOTE: IF you know and plan on buying a bunch of parts for ANY of your cars/toys from Auto Krafters I highly suggest you look into buying their 2 year "Gold Club" membership as it will more than pay for itself in discounts and shipping savings. Note also there are some limitations/restrictions which are listed in the membership details printed on their website and in their catalogs. I have in the past gotten their Gold Club and saved more money than what the membership cost).

I can still remember the last time that I had to stop without the benefit of power brakes in my Talladega – pretty much from the 2nd or 3rd stop, every time I replace my booster…? It made driving at a “spirited pace” on the back roads around York and Gettysburg very interesting last summer…? I hope that my new booster is a longer lived unit than the previous three were.

?

I’m sure that Mark would have been mortified to know that I was following him without the benefit of power assisted brakes….
