Re: Tires

Your memory is correct Pete. My point was that even if a car is built in the US it would have had to have been at some point "Exported" in this case to Canada be it by Ford OR by the buyer. Which MIGHT have required specific things be installed or different than US bound cars based on Canadian requirements & laws. Now the fact that the Data plate had/has that "Special Performance" clause may OR may not have exempted the car from those requirements. I don't know, just stating a possibility that could/might have happened. I don't know all the ins & outs for doing this back then or now on any car.

I am going to tell you a couple true stories.

One is common knowledge & that in the mid 60s Mustangs bound for export to Europe, Specifically Germany HAD to have ALL Mustang badging removed & in their place a T-5 was used. This was to comply with laws due to the fact that there was a company that owned the rights to the Mustang name in Europe/Germany & they would NOT license or sell the rights to use the Mustang name or images in Europe/Germany.

The last story is that years ago my dad & I were traveling to Canada for a Yankees game. While at the boarder I inquired about what was required to to buy a car in Canada & then bring it back into the US. The Customs Agent told us that in order to bring the Car into the US we would have to get documentation from GM US (as we were asking abt a Corvette that would have been a great deal on the face of it due to asking price & exchange rate) that stated the car "WOULD Pass ALL US Emission & Safety [re crash standards] Laws), the SAME would be true for ANY car/manufacture being bought in Canada & brought back into the US & the SAME would be true for WHAT EVER Canada would require for a car bought in the US & brought back into Canada.

This is WHY I brought up the possibility that things like tires MIGHT need to be changed either due to safety laws (DOT of Canada) OR even Licensing/Duty laws based on the maker & model of the tires & where they were made and where things like that would need to be sourced from. I don't know all the in & outs of this BUT do know it happens/is a thing. All I know is it can be complicated navigating it.

David from WNY,

Yes I'm Canadian, but this was a Boss 429 Mustang that could only have
come from
Kar Kraft in Detroit, or wherever they were. It had the KK 429 NASCAR,
decal on the
drivers door, right above, or, below,? I think it was above, the metal
VIN tag, which also said,
at the bottom, "Special Performance Vehicle". I sure hope my memory is
serving me correctly here.

Anyway, for this conversation, the car involved most likely totally
deletes the Canadian concern.

With any other car, I would share your worries.

Cheerio,

A lot can depend on what the customer (which could be the dealer or a person who walked in & ordered the car) ordered IF ordered different from factory equipped for that series (in this case Cobra). Has he found the Build Sheet in the car (under the carpet, under seat springs front or back both bottoms & backs, under the dash maybe above the glovebox)? Where was this car made? I think & am fairly sure the Wide Ovals (which were Bias Ply) were still installed on the 1970 Ford performance cars but can't remember for 100%.
