Re: 428 Engine Brackets
OK, now I know what we are talking about. For some reason, I thought they were part of the motor mount that raised the engine to the proper height.? Now that I know it is the brackets used for lifting the engine, I am pretty sure my Cobra does not have them.?? These have been discussed somewhere (maybe the FE forum) in the past and I discovered I did not have them.? I will look again to make sure, but it looks like I will not be able to help you Linc. Thanks for the clarification, Dave.? I should have known what they were.?? Gary in SoCal

Gary, You are correct. The lift pates/hooks are bent (with a press) and angled (cut/stamped out) as needed for engine and application with a top hole stamped out big enough for the lift hooks to hook to. They are bolted to the exhaust manifold bolts typically. As FYI, the factory had and has been known to have removed one or both lift plates. It's totally random. So it is entirely possible your car never left the factory with the lift plates/brackets. And as such, IF that was the case one could argue that putting them on wouldn't be correct for that specific car. Based on the few pics I have of the engine compartment on my '68 Fairlane 500 302, it only has one lift plate/bracket still attached on the passenger side. I don't believe the engine has ever been out of the car. IIRC my '87 LTD Crown Vic wagon's 302/5.0L has both lift plates/brackets still on the engine. Also IF the car was serviced, like engine work, the shop and/or owner of the car may have removed them and never reinstalled. The best way would be to remove the lift plates and put the paper such that it lays exactly to all the contour bends of the lift plate, then draw trace the outline, holes AND mark with a fill line where each bend is. In theory that should get you close to the correct length of the metal before bending it. Once you have the laser cut CNC program file, please save it as some here might also need those lift plates made also and may be able to use that program/file to have some laser cut locally to them. I am not familiar with the lift brackets for the 428CJ.? My guess is it would be the bracket the fits between the motor mount and subframe, but a paper template is normally flat and the part I am envisioning is not flat.? The only time I worked in that area was many years ago when I replaced the starter electrical wire.? I may recognize what the lift bracket is when I get the car up on my lift, but it would be nice if you could give me some more details about it.
