Re: '69 Fairlane sheet metal, again
¿ªÔÆÌåÓý
Slow progress on my convertible restoration. A long time ago I bought a donor left side "A" pillar from a wrecked car to use for parts, as mine has body damage and rust. In cutting it apart, I've come up with a couple of parts I don't need for a convertible.
They are part # C7OZ-6210195-B, Gusset-Floor Side Member to Front Side Member, and C8OZ-5410067-A, Extension-Floor Side Inner Member Front, if I'm reading the book correctly. Torque box I believe. They were cut out with a spot weld cutter, so lots of 3/8"
holes, but if anyone has a need for them, you can have them for the cost of shipping. My thanks for many years of support and information from the group.

David,
? It was $600 for both sides, $300 per side. I'll send pics as I get further, but it got temporarily moved to the back burner. I broke the front end on my tractor, and even though it's only 17 years old, the dealer doesn't stock parts anymore, so I'm trying
to find used somewhere.

Steve,
Thank you for the update and pics. I too was thinking the same as you were and expecting a "drop-in" replacement, not a "some assembly required" sub structures/pieces puzzle prior to "dropping-in". And yes I know most replacement panels aren't 100% "drop-in" and are likely going to need fitment which can include cutting/grinding as needed before welding in place. Was that $600 total for both sides or was it $600 each side? IF $600 total, that isn't to bad, not great but not all that bad either. I wasn't really too sure what to expect on price, and now to find out "some pre-assembly assembly required" is still needed, I don't know, maybe a touch/bit high. But as you said, you need these to return structural integrity back to the chassis. Please keep sending us pics of the "some assembly required" in process and then as you progress to and including the final installation stages. David,
? I got the parts back, and it wasn't quite what I expected. I thought I would get "reproductions" but it turned out they are functional copies. They were also a little more expensive than I thought, at $600 for both sides, and as you can see, some assembly
required. I'll also need to trim the lower front of the front box piece so it will contour to the firewall. I'm ok with it for my use, as these parts aren't available anywhere and I just want to get the car structurally sound and back on the road. I haven't
done a test fit yet because I still need to do some cleanup and repair, but they seem to measure out ok.

I currently to my knowledge don't need any. BUT would be interested in "in progress" and "final pics", price as well as what years these theoretically would/should/could fit (I am guessing at least '68 & '69 for fit/use) as well as other possible body
styles/types other than the convertible these MIGHT be able to be fitted to with maybe some mods/tweeks. It is one of those things that IF price is right and have the spare funds it wouldn't hurt to have spares on hand for one of those just incase times.

? I asked quite some time ago about inner rocker availability for a convertible, and thought I'd revisit the subject. I called several suppliers, and not only are they not making the inner rocker pieces, but have no plans to do so. I finally found someone locally
that will reproduce the metal for me, but have to bring him the original pieces to use as templates. Well, most of it is gone, but I've finally got all three pieces on one side out and will drop them off tomorrow. I had to weld bracing on to one because it
was just the outside edge, and broken apart in several places. The shop is going to duplicate one set, then do a mirror image for the other side.
? I have two questions. First, if my custom made repops work out, does anyone else need any? I can ask the shop if they want to do a limited run if there is interest. Second, since I don't own a spot welder, I was thinking of using one of the new structural
adhesives for putting the new pieces back in. Has anyone had any experience with them, pro's/con's, and does anyone see any reason it wouldn't work as well as spot welding?
